Hello, I would like to introduce myself... I am Jesse, and I have been lurking on these forums for some time now. Today I pulled the trigger and purchased a 2013 Vivid Black Street Bob w/ forward controls and a few other goodies. So far this community looks great, and I can't wait to become an active part in it. I do have a question though... I bought quick detach pillion, backrest and passenger footpegs and opted to not have the dealer install. Are these items hard to install myself? Does the kit come with instructions? I have them installing the controls, but figured I could save a few bucks and try the passenger stuff myself. I can always call the dealer and have them install it, if it would be too tough. Thanks for the help, and I look forward to talking with you all more!!!
welcome to HDF. Install everything yourself. You can purchase a service manual, jack and still come out ahead for what the stealership charges (you wont need them for your current installs) The parts will come with instructions. You can browse HD's website and download the installation instructions ahead of time
You'll find that with the help of this forums you can do pretty much everything yourself with a service manual and some patience. Congrats on the bike and welcome to the HDF family
Congrats on the new bike! Nice choice. Vivid Black is cool.
The passenger footpegs are a simple bolt-on feature assuming the holes are drilled and tapped in the swing arm. if they aren't, you might want to ask to have this done because access on the left side is a pain. If the holes exist, they just bolt on.
The seat and backrest is a bit more involved but not at all difficult. Just take steps to protect the paint on your fender when you loosen everything up.
Get some pics up for us....we all like our street bob ****!!
Don't expect the instructions to be perfect, when I put my rigid sideplates on my Fat Bob I found that out quick. The Harley Service Manual is a must for so many reasons, pictures, diagrams, procedures, etc it will help with about everything. Do it yourself, and the money you save will pay for that manual.
get the service manual and some basic hand tools, plus this forum and you will be able to do many many things yourself... plus......its a good thing to know your bike...im not a mechanic and this is my bikes current state.... no problem..
