I believe in another thread there is much praise of a custom seat maker very reasonably priced. I'm looking for it now but please weigh in if you know of whom I speak...
Chief - You're probably thinking of Ed at Sick Saddles. From what I have seen and read, he makes some great high quality seats, that are very comfortable and for an unbeatable price. I can't comment, yet, on the comfort on long rides, as I am still waiting for my seat from Ed to ship.
That is the one thing, Ed is a one man show. He makes all the seats by hand, himself. Additionally, his seats have been getting much more popular lately, so be prepared to wait a few weeks. The wait doesn't bother me, at all, but I have seen some complain about having to wait.
I have the 51472-06... Other than being ugly its actually very comfortable for the rider also. I got mine for the same reason you are looking, picked it up off CL. I will say that the seat has been great for lower back issues...has a little support.
I went from the stock with passenger pad to the Mustang Vintage Solo with it's passenger pad. Wife liked it much better than the harley model but still wasn't completely happy on long trips.
Recently upgraded to the Corbin Classic Solo and it's passenger pad. She likes this one best of all. I know corbin isnt cheap but after finally getting around to trying it, I can say they are worth it.
i bought a used 2up sundowner and had it reworked by mean city cycles. excellent seat now. i also have a c&c sport tour with back rest, seen in my sig, nice seat as well.

+1 on the C&C Dual Sport Tour. No complaints from my Babe.
