Even though it is stamped into the frame neck and on the engine,... I would consider it to be the VIN stamp and that, YES,...it would be illeagl to remove the label.

I think it would be ok to remove it .. i mean what if u powder coated the frame the label would be removed then .they have stamped #s on the neck for years i think this is where most if not all cops know where to look for them.a sticker is a sticker its notgonna last forever . i have been thinking about mine and removing it also

Federal law requires all vehicle manufacturers vin tags to be visible and unaltered. Any police officer can impound your bike on the spot of the vin tag has been removed or altered. Better not touch it. You will have a hard time selling or trading the bike in without it.

The tag always gets messed up sooner or later. Yank it off and don't worry about it. The number stamped in the frame is the one that counts.

Aren't there 2 stickers on there in that same spot. I pulled off one of mine a while back, but left the VIN sticker.

what about covering it in some decal material the same colour as your downtube, then if it's needed you can pull the vinyl off?
