Welcome and congrats on the new bike! I'm also in Jersey. Where did you get your bike from?
I find that I'm shifting at least 2700-3000 rpms, sometimes take it up a bit higher. Get a feel for your bike and see what feels comfortable and smooth. Like others have said, you definitely don't want to lug the engine.
Thanks for the help guys. I got about 30 miles on the bike it's been freezing here still trying to get out when I can. How easy is it to damage the crank bearings? How would u know if u messed something up? Sorry it's just a totally different feel than what I'm used to just don't wanna do anything stupid
You will know something is messed up if your engine starts shaking when idling j/k
I keep my rpm's up to at least 2,500- 3,000. 3,000 +- when shifting.
I do not want the engine below 2,500 at any time.
If you are going to 6th gear at 55 mph you are lugging the engine.
I came from a GSXR 750 too so I know what your saying about the shifting. The gixxer redlined at 15500rpm or so and riding it to that point was effortless. It took me a while to get used to the shifting on the harley. I banged off the rev limiter a couple of times in first and second gear. I used to shift the gixxer at about 6k and I usually shift the harley around 3000-3500. Once you get some more miles on it you'll figure it out.
Rode mine at varying speeds for the first 100 miles. After that I rode it like I was planning on riding it for the rest of it's life...I Ride it like I Stole it!

Just follow the break-in if it is a brand new bike. That will give you a rough guide. Each bike in the line is a little different, but I shift mine at about 3K-3.4K.
