Default "Adjusting" your windshield

So I have seen a couple of posts where people stated that they had to adjust their windshield to get the right effect. My question is; how did you adjust it?

I have a Quick Release Super Sport. Besides the obvious of moving the clamps up and down on the forks, is there another way?

One thing I have tried is for the top clamps I kind of pulled the shoulder bolts out from the brace on the windshield (not letting the shoulder bolts sit all the way in the cavity of the brace. That seemed to help a bit with buffeting, and it seems like it is holding good, but not sure if its the safest way of doing it.

+1.

I "adjusted" mine to near-destruction and the buffeting still meant it was unusable.

I used a sportster windshield. I changed the clamps to 49mm and it gave me about 3 1/2" of up and down adjustment compared to the 1" of the dyna shield. Same size but the clamps mount closer together. Works great.

I have the compact ws and adjusted it with the shoulder bolts seated all the way into the clamps. I'm 5'10" and it works great. no buffeting, watery eyes or obnoxious wind noise on those long trips down the highway. The FXDWG has more rake than the FXD so it probably will have different results. I would try tilting it all the forward that you can.

To all those macho men who refuse to ride with a windshield: Enjoy the ride! Because I do to. Especially when its cold and raining

ynots, by tilting it forward do you mean rotating the clamps upward so it forces the windshield out or is there another method you were speaking of? I did get it to sit more forward by how I mentioned before not letting the clamps sit all the way in the cavity of the brace.

I did have the compact windshield before but the buffeting was crazy bad with that one.

Because of the extra rake on your WG I was suggesting to keep it as straight up and down as possible by tilting it forward. In the pics on my last post mine are adjusted all the way down and back in the notches which work great for my 29 deg rake. Keeping the bottom qd clamp about 1-1/4" above the lower tree seems to be the sweet spot on mine

I have this same windshield (Super Sport QD), and I found a sweet spot just by adjusting up and down. My top clamps are about and inch below the upper triple clamp, as you can see in my sig pic.

Something nobody has mentioned, is you can remove the screen from the braces, and take some flat washers and shim in between the screen and the brace to change the angle. The screen attaches to the brace in 3 locations on each side...for example you could put one washer in each of the middle bolts, and 2 on each of the top ones and this would put your windshield in a more upright position. Do just the opposite if you want it to lean more by putting the shims in the bottom bolts. A little bit can make a big difference. BTW-use stainless washers..

I did this when I had my Sporty and had a QD windshield. I found the opposite of what others have said to be true though...the more I leaned the windshield, the less turbulence. More upright was more turbulence, but that's just from my trials...I think it depends on the bike. The more I angled the screen, the smoother the wind flowed over me and had less updraft effect.

It's all trial and error, but try the washer/shim thing both ways and see if that helps you any. I'm just ready for it to warm up, and the windshield will be put until next winter..

Thanks for the tip on the washers, might have to give that a try! I dont plan on riding too much with my windshield either, but I do need it to get cross country to California. I tried riding a couple of times on the highway without it and the wind is just too much to bare. Once I get to CA it will be coming off and going in storage!
