...disappointed that I didn't install them from the beginning, that is! Finally got back stateside and took the first ride with the new Thunderheaders and tuning. I think I startled the hell out of rush hour Tacoma I-5 traffic when I called on the extra torque when some mindless driver started merging into my lane without looking. So far, so good on the performance and sound. I couldn't be happier with the first impression of the new pipes.
For anyone curious about my setup I run a 2011 Fat Bob with Ness AC, TH 2-1, and TTS Mastertune. The rest of the engine is stock due to lack of funding... for now. I would say I'm done for now but we all know how it really is. Thanks to everyone who helped me make the decision to go with Thunderheader!
You know, I spent a LOT of time asking people and doing research and now that I have them I'm glad I went with the pipes I went with, even if they were expensive. Lots of good pipes on the market so it basically comes down to personal preference.
I read the title to this thread and thought damnit... i have a set of thunderheaders sitting in my garage waiting to get coated... kinda chuckled out loud when i read the first line of the post...
Did u throw em on straight outta the box with heat shields or did u get em coated?
Do they drag as bad as stock pipes? I'm trying to find an exhaust that doesnt drag as much. Im punishing my stock pipes. I thought about checking out the LSR 2 to 1 exhaust.
Stupid question but what do you mean by drag?
First performance mod on my bike and I'm still learning the terminology.
DYNAMIC,
I put them on fresh out of the box. I actually had them installed while I was still deployed so I could have it tuned and ready when I got back. As of now they are bare - no heat shields or coating yet. I was in the shop for something today and spoke to the techs about getting them wrapped and I'm seriously considering doing that soon. Otherwise I'll put the heat shields on since I live in Tacoma and ride in the rain a lot and without the heat shields I'll melt the rain gear to the pipes. So far in the cool weather I haven't had any problems as long as I don't touch them. Touching them is a problem...
