here it goes: Distance between your exhaust pipe and the sonometer -> 24inch in an angle of 45 degree,at 2500 you got to be under a 100db and at idle you need to be under 90db
My t header is quiet until 3200 then it rages any exhaust it quiet til you get on her. It's the cams that and idle rpm that will make it louder at idle. What's a fix it ticket like up there?
Hey guys, was considering stage 1, and since Cops are now checking our exhaust in quebec(they need to be under a 100 decibels) I was thinking about a 2in1 set up who would be quieter than my current set up with 50\50 pipes, Is there a way to put a thunderheader or a fatcat under a 100decibels or should I start looking out in a supertrapp with the disc who can be added to reduce the sounds ?
If you are not running a tach, they have to do the test with the bike idling so I'd be more concerned about 92db at idle

My quiet fatcat is not loud at idle but at 2500 rpm's I am sure it is louder.
My Fat Cat with the big boar baffle has a rumble at idle, but around 2800-3000 rpms it begins to roar. There's kind of a breaking point there...at 2500 it's not crazy loud, but it's loud.
Any engine mods are going to make a difference in how loud it is also & I have Wood cams so it's louder than if the engine were bone stock.
I'm going to check it this week at the distance/angle the OP requested.
I just checked with meter. I have an open endcap see the photo. At Idle it was 104 and at 2500 it was 117. That i on weighting level C. Dont know what the leve seting means. I know NHRA uses setting C for there test but it is at 30 feet. 24" is real close for a sound check. I would think it would be more than 24". Like I said that is with open end cap. I had shorts before and these are a lot deeper and a lot quiter.
It's a cash grab!!! I doubt there is an aftermarket exhaust for a big twin that will idle at 92db. I would be surprised if a stock exhaust idles at 92db!!!
Yeah exactly it's some sound **** law I got 50/50 but never got a ticket about them but i'm careful around cops and in living place. So I think i'm going to go with either a supertrapp closed caps with the quietest option for the discs numbers. Or a thunderheader with a baffle and run it in 3rd when I should be in 2nd
