i started with just the cams, after one week of riding. i did notice the softer bottom from the lack of compression needed for the cams.there was no way i was going to change the compression on the 96 engine. so i did the 107, all ready into the project i wanted it done right. so i had the head work done to get the most of the build. did not want to take it apart twice. with the big shot exhaust it made 106hp/110 tq. swithched the exhaust to a 2 into 1 last fall. and just install HPI 55mm tb last week. to finally finish my build. that was the last item i could not afford last year. my opinion is if you are doing cams you need to correct the compression needed for the cams you selected and the headwork is the extra bonus that makes ever thing come together
when doing a big bore install., definitely worth it.

The Fuel Moto 107" includes cams and gives the option of headwork for not a whole lot more. W/O heads, your at 100hp and with headwork over 110hp.

I did not want the higher compression that comes with headwork as I have fuel quality issues.

I have also noticed many are doing cams at the same time-good idea.
However, I don't see many doing head work. A few but mostly not.
If it was me and I was going to do a big bore kit and cams I would at least have the heads cleaned up some.
Maybe it's me but doing the heads at the same time would be cost effective I would think. Not to mention a better cam choice for additional power.
Is it me?
Warranty?
Well if it isn't done by a HD dealer with HD parts and installed within 30 days it will not be added to the bike warranty any way.
Why not wait a little longer and do the heads at the same time?
Am I missing something here?

I would always install upgraded heads on a big bore, cammed bike. Personally i am going with 264 CFM S&S heads, with S&S 97 Inch Top End, and Geardrive 510 Cams, topped with a Super E carb and Thunderheader.

I have no clue about dealer warranty BS.....I have never owned a new Harley. Nor would I let some monkey dictate how I build my bike.

Just a stout daily rider, for the long haul miles.

That is how I would have done it most likely.
yes you are right head work is not necessary, but if your pulling the heads to do a big bore why not go ahead and have the heads cleaned up some. Not necessarily big valves just cleaned up to complement the cams.
I will go to the 55mm throttle body next winter. took all my funds to do the engine build. Crank work is not cheap, boring the case for for the added 113ci big bore from 88ci wasn't all that bad. The welded crank, being trued and balanced with the tim... bearings and stage 4 head work got my funds. I did go with a 50mm throttle body but could not pull off the cost of 55mm throttle body. Got a new 50 mm throttle body for under $300 with injectors.
some of the work I want done to some of our bikes just has to wait until funds are available. You know 2 kids, 12 and 18 is expensive.
The only bike that gets what it needs when it needs it is the street glide.
So I do understand having to wait.
