I did use the bearing kit.....
BUT...If you never had your rear whell off your in for a JOB....Maybe..
I couldn't get the axle out....Ended up using an air chisel to drive it out..
Not a drop of anything on the axle from the factory....
Get yourself some GOOD spray on never seize when you install.....
I have an air hammer and impact and all sorts of good tools for destruction. I plan on the worst case scenario when I do this. I also have a big jar of antiseize, I will use it on the appropriate areas. Permatex stuff. Its nice when things come back apart as they should! I think I am going to wet sand the wheel down and then polish it up with my buffer like chrome. Don't feel like paying 300 bucks for a chrome exchange right now.
If I had to do it all over again with my Dyna I would plate everything nickle....
Also some of those exchange wheels are sized for 3/4 inch axles....TOO SMALL
My 07 is (1) inch...I think the newer Dyna's are maybe close to (1) inch but are in metric...
I have an 08 St Glide that's pretty much stock except for things you can't see like the air box mod....truel duals and a HD race tuner
I might start on that bike soon with some mods.....like bigger wheels...
Hm, I need to measure my wheel then. Not sure what size it is or what year it came from exactly. Maybe an 02 or 03? Should I just measure the bearing that is in it now to see?
If your using a take off rear from a 02 or 03 "Deuce" it's gonna have to be bored.....
BUT the good news there is plenty of meat to bore...
Your Dyna Custom has a bigger rear axle than the 02 or 03 Deuce
I also think in your deal a shim is involved....
Best thing to do is buy the bearing kit right from HD....I think your kit # is 41451-08B.....You can check my numbers but I have looked when I did mine and almost got the wrong bearing kit.....
BUT....check with a few guys here that used a softies rear wheel....pretty much all have to be bored to fit a Dyna from 06 on....
