Default Hard start

I have a 2010 FXDWG that cranks and backfires and sounds like it is going to rip the starter off the bike after a hot soak. If I ride 5 miles and stop to fill up this thing kicks and grinds and makes you wonder if you're walking home. If the bike is cold or sits for a hour or more it starts great. I have checked and cleaned battery cables and ends, tried a new coil, disassembled the starter and couldn't see any problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is the same problem but when I stop for gas or something my 07 grinds occasionaly when I try to start. This only happens when it is hot like after a ride and I shutdown and try and restart a few minutes later......Grinding noises happens.....bad starter clutch. I will be replacing mine with a new one from AllBalls.....

Is it stock? If not, what has been done? How many miles on it? Get it to what produces the problem and before you crank it, screw the plugs out and see if they are wet. You may have an injector leaking. Worth checking since it's simple to do.

I hooked a fuel PSI gauge on it holds 62PSI hot and cold and cranking. It has vance hines pipes stage 1 download from harley and highflow air filter. It started at 35k and has gotten slowly worse now has 68k and getting very embarrassing. the battery and stater is new and charges great.

I had read in a thread as a trick for those having this problem (myself included), and it has worked for me.
If the bike is hot from recent riding, don't wait for the fuel injectors to prime before starting. Flip on the ignition and IMMEDIATELY hit the start button. I have been doing this for the better part of a year and the bike starts more easily.
Might as well give it a try, since it is free. If it doesn't work, you get what you pay for
