Default 1997 Dyna Super Glide

Looking to buy a 97 Super Glide w/2800 original miles on her. Any info on this model scoot would be great, Good or Bad. It's my first Harley so I don't know much about them. Been garaged since new, started and driven once every 2 weeks. Seller is a friend and bought it as his first scoot and is afraid to ride. Gets nervous in traffic. Bike is mint condition but just wonder what the reviews are and can't seem to find any on the web. Thanks for any help....P.S This will be added to my collection. I already have a 2010 1700 Voyager

Nothing to be afraid of about the bike. Any older machine that has been run infrequently needs to be thoroughly checked. Grab a manual and do it yourself.

It sitting so long may bring up some possible issues to be aware of:
Rust in fuel tank (tanks can be cleaned and resealed)
Old fuel varnishing the carb (carbs are easily cleaned or rebuilt)
tires are shot (replace them. buy online and take the wheels off and have an indie mount the new rubber)
all rubber lines need inspection and possibly replacement (self explanatory)
drive belt needs close inspection (never seen one go bad with age, but you should check it at regualr service intervals anyway)
gaskets may be dry and start to leak (be aware of it. for the most part, very easy fixes)

The bike is solid, I wouldn't be afraid of it in the least.

Grab the shop manual and look at the servicing requirements and do everything it requires for a high mileage bike.

Take the time to do it right. Torque everything to specs.

After that, start up high at the mirrors and work your way down and back until you have looked at and inspected everything on the bike through the back tire.

Then, start it up and head across counry, it will be fine.

Jonesee,
Thanks for the response. I know he just put the tires on because they started to crack. I planned on changing fuel lines, fluids and battery. He does start it but never takes it on the highway just around the block. Shame to buy a scoot and find you're afraid to ride it. Wish me luck, I'm getting it next week and hope it is a good decision...

Don't buy it, give me his number and I'll make sure that dangerous machine never see's the light of day ever again. It is a death trap, I'm just trying to save you the headache and hassle and maybe even save your life.

Wow, Terrible thing these machines are. Thanks for your concern for my health Jaysledge, but I like taking chances on 2 wheels. Nothing beats Wind Therapy.
