good question.. i second that question.. but i do have the rubber from the harley lay down plate prob can take that off and use it there... but yes i'd like to know if there is something to protect the paint

A piece of steel from Home Depot, cut it to fit plate, bend it to match fender, spray paint it, and attach with some hardware and small spacers with loctite. Been on over a year with no issues. Uses 3 holes already there and can't see the mount at all. Kinda hard to see in this pic but you can see how its just off the fender.
