New to the HD world - looking to get a Streetr Bob
Then, about a week ago, I went to a different dealer - a little further away. It was a completely different experiences...I talked to ONE salesman and no Managers and at the end the salesman said: "do you want me to follow-up with you or do you want to follow-up with me". Suffice it to say, this was a much more comfortable experience. This dealer also said, "we are an MSRP dealer - the other guys (the first dealer I went to) are not....they don't list their prices on the bikes on the floor...pricing with them is game of mystery"
Anyone have a a similar experiences with this concept of an "MSRP dealer vs. a non-MSRP dealer"?
Second question - I mentioned to the second dealer's salesman that I was interested in the HD-1 customization program. I specifically mentioned I was interested in the Air-Intake upgrade to the Screaming' Eagle Heaver Breather. He said if I were to upgrade the Air-Intake I would need to get the bike re-tuned on a Dyno and get a new "map" installed on the bike's chip -about $800 - Yikes!. This makes NO sense to me. If I order a bike from the HD factory with an upgraded Air-Intake, why wouldn't the factory tune and map it properly coming out the factory door?
P.S. I posted here in the Dyno Forum because I'm interested in a Street Bob.

Best to just buy the parts on your own and install them and get your own tuner for the bike. Some can be inexpensive and easy, others are more in-depth and technical but you pay for that ability to optimize.
First, welcome. The Street Bob is a great bike. I bought mine through the H-D1 process and I'm very happy with the bike.
As for the MSRP thing, every dealer is different. A lot of them sell at MSRP then provide incentives through dealer accessories, labor, etc. The H-D1 process is going to be MSRP anyway, so just accept that and ask for free accessories, labor or mods, or discount/free 500 mile service.
If you are going intake only, you don't have to get the tune. If you upgrade pipe and intake, you'll want the tune. The reason is that these bikes are tuned lean from the factory to meet EPA regulations. Just the intake alone won't cause too much extra leanness, but the addition of a pipe will. That said, the tune is a good idea but not required for just the intake.
Now, $800 is way way too much for a factory (flash type) tune. This shouldn't cost more Han $150 and even then it's not the most efficient use of your money.
For $800 you could buy the best tuner on the market (PowerVision), map the tune yourself (very easy), and still have the tuner for future use.
If you are looking for budget conscience tuning, you could buy the Screamin' Eagle SESPT for less than $300 and have the dealer download and install a decent map. You're going to get a lot of tuner advice in this thread. A lot of very knowledgeable people will chime in and it's mostly good advice. Do some research, then call a company called Fuel Moto for the best option. They are really good at what they do and support all of their tuners with downloadable maps.
Good luck with the purchase and share some pics when you get them.

When I returned 2 weeks later and again waited, this time I waited for the same salesman, he "sort of remembered" me having been there earlier and we struck a deal. It had never occured to me that they wouldn't work some sort of a discount into the deal. From what I've read on here, my dealer (Liberty HD of Rahway, NJ) is among some of the nicest HD dealers to deal with.
