I have a stock 02 FXD with a full size windshield. I had it mounted low, almost to where the bottom of the windshield was touching the headlight. This way I could see over it. I was getting a little pull up on my helmet. So I decided to raise it to where I could look through it so i went all the way up, as high as it could go. Now I can see through it but I'm getting much more wind up under the shield and that is causing a different type of turbulence. If I set it in the middle the top of the shield will be right in my line of site, annoying.
I had the full sized windshield, the one that goes about 18" from the top of the headlight cutout. No amount of adjusting helped. Then I got one of the ones that goes 14". Huge improvement.
my HD QD Touring Windshield for Dynas.. I've found after trying so many different angles , high or low, even built "fangs" wind deflectors for it and finally I found where it stays better: on ebay!
I sold the $hit, no more buffeting on my helmet, now just running a flyscree, super happy with that.
I had problems with the HD QD shield on my FB until I tilted the top FORWARD. Loosened the top most bolts, tilted it out a bit, then retightened. If someone hadn't suggested it, I would have never thought to try it. I run it down to the lower tree when I'm riding most of the time so I can see over it. When it's cold or rainy, I raise to get more "shelter". I don't have buffeting problems in either position.
Helmet type and brand make a difference, as well as seating position. My low-slung C&C saddle make me look through it even at the lowest position. I was going to get it cut down, but it works with my Corbin perfect, so I left it alone. That is the seat I use for longer rides and use the windshield with mostly anyway
You could find a place and have it cut or get a replacement shield. I think cee bailey's has a very reasonable price and nice quality shields too. that is one on my sig pic below. Sorry I don't have any other pics of it. Me, I could never ride and look through a windshield
I tried tilting the top forward and it did not do the trick. I got some flat stock and made a a couple of pieces to push the bottom out abot an inch forward - which in turn angled the top back. Did the trick.
