I've been looking for a windshield option for many months, since I started riding with a FF helmet. I had a 14x14 windvest that worked well with my skid lid but once I switched to the FF, it vibrated it pretty bad so I ditched the windshield (or sold it to be accurate). I want a windshield option for longer rides so I bought an HD part # 57199-99 off eBay and bought it for a good deal IMO.
Put it on today and holy crap, my head was vibrating worse than with the windvest. I can feel the air hitting right at the top of my helmet and I believe that is what is vibrating it so bad. I thought that since it was 2" taller than the windvest, it would throw the wind over my head but that wasn't the case.
I saw someone on the forum that bought a longride shield (I believe it was) and it was 16" from the headlight to the top of the shield but the top was curved. I believe this is what I need in order to throw the wind over my head. But I can find the thread (or post) where the guy bought it and the details. I assume there are some shields that I can usethst can use the harley frame, since I really like the quick release clamps.
Any help or suggestions on a curved shield that uses the Harley equipment?
I've had that problem with my bmw windshield. There aren't really any options for my fairing, so I ended up buying a different helmet with an anti buffeting fin. It really helped, but looked a bit goofy/squidish.
I had the same problem, bought a memphis shades del rio and it felt like someone shoved a vibrator in my helmet. I bought lower wind deflectors and they didn't make a difference as everyone claims. I switched to my half helmet and it cut down by 80%. However, it is my conclusion that the addition of a deflector at the top of the windshield is the key unless you want a windshield that is higher than your head. Imagine the curl of a wave for the shape of the deflector with the curl facing the road. I used a heatgun and some clear plastic to make it but I hated the look of it so I didnt keep it on.
If you take your hand and feel around while your riding the wind is coming from your fork area and hitting you in the chin. Personaly I only run a windshield in the rain and when its below freezing. I would like to try the LRS shield though. Right now I have the king size one with the quick detach.
When I was looking for a windshield for a sportster I owned I went to the dealerships and they had a windshield there that would measure how tall or short your windshield should be than you would simply go order it. Worked out great for me

Same for me. I put my arm across my chest and the ride smooths out. Really just using the screen for winter riding and rain.
A standard HD tombstone windshield is aerodynamically unsound, it's not about the size but the design.
First off you need something than has a curved lip on the top of the shield, but if you really want to eliminate the majority of the buffeting you need to equalize the pressure in the rear of the screen with the front. Here is what you need, http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ter-windshield most guys don't like the way they look, but you have to ask yourself if you want style or functionality cause you really can't have both to the fullest extent.

A buddy put one of those curved shields on his bike and it slightly increased the buffeting for him. Interestingly, when I got my first full face helmet it was so nice it allowed me take the w'shield off of my bike.

..and if the buffeting is still too much you might want to consider a set of wind deflectors, since most of the air you're feeling is actually coming from underneath...
Here's a recent thread on those: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...5400143-a.html
