For quiet some time I put flags on Veterans graves on Memorial.
This year I had a surprise.
I made a post of doing this. Well several for different states showed up at the house to help.
They sure made it easy for me. It usually takes most of the day but it was shortened with their help.
We ended up back at our house where I grilled and had a great time.
It was a wonderful day for a great reason.

That's awesome, glad you care. The wife and I went to the Ft Sill Cemetery, visited Her dad (served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars), her step-dad (served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam), my step-dad (served 3 tours in Vietnam), and SSG Paul A. Velazquez, one of my soldiers and friend who died in Iraq. I am glad to see others, know that it is more than just a day for riding and cooking out.
The wife and I went to where this all started, Appomattox, VA (380 mile round trip), where Lee and Grant insured that there would be no more fallen soldiers as a result of the Civil War. I read that the number of fallen soldiers during the Civil War was around to 2.5% of their population, which was somewhere around 30 million total population, so like 750,000 if I remember correctly. That number is greater than the number of Americans that have fallen in WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, the Golf War and the "current" war added together.

I just returned from a trip to D.C. and Gettysburg (with about 50 8th Graders). While there, we took them to Arlington National Cemetery (Robert E. Lee's home). Always a moving experience. Touring Gettysburg was also inspiring.
By the way, the Civil War had about 620,000 deaths (about 2% of the population). To put it in proper perspective, realize that at the Battle of Shiloh (on the banks of the Tennessee River) more Americans fell in two days than in all previous American Wars combined. At Gettysburg, there were 51,000 casualties.
This past Memorial Weekend we rode to the Talimena National Scenic Byway and stopped at the Fort Sill National Cemetery to place Flags and a Wreath around the POW/MIA Section. We can never do enough to remember our soldiers who have sacrificed to much for our Freedoms.
I have been doing this a long time.
Since I am a D.A.V. I know what Memorial day means.
Since we had help and I had the flags We did more than usual.
I usually do not grill but due to my help coming from different states I felt obligated.
One couple was from Indiana.
Wish I could have joined ya'll. My mom and dad and a few generations of my family are buried up in Blount County close to Oneonta where he grew up. I still have family living in that area. We used to live in Fort Payne when I was in second grade...I am planning a trip to visit mom and dad and a cousin who lives in Hayden early in July.
