Default To slam or not to slam?

So I'm wanting a more "low down/nasty/slammed" look by lowering the rear of my 06' Street Bob, but I don't want to f-up my handling and ride quality to severely. What do you all recommend, and can you post some pics of your slammed SB or Dyna?

Not to intentionally sway you, but you might have to change your riding style afterward. Had a sportster years ago that a lowered 1".
I started scraping more often & got maybe a little overly-conscious of going into an aggressive turn or turning out of a driveway with a steep curb. That in itself changed my handling.
Loved the look though!

Not sure your going to get both the things you want very well. Slammed and good handling just dont mix well. I lowered the rear of my wg an inch and it did not do much to my handling but I left the front alone. i think the biggest thing you would notice is the lean angles will be reduced.

Well. I've been through this just recently..and like the guys above said.. You will definitely have to change the way you ride. I have always loved slammed cars and trucks and probably always will, but on a motorcycle, it's a much different ride. My 12 bob was lowered almost 2 inches all the way around. It looked fricken killer.. But the ride was not great at all. I have attached a few pics for you to look at. I guess the choice is yours.. You will sacrifice ride quality for sure, but not looks! Lol.. I just raised my bike back to stock height with some better suspension, and the ride is sooo much better.. It's definitely more fun to ride now. If your a cruiser, and don't care about tearin sh** up, than the lowered look is going to suit you just fine. Hope this helps..

Thanks man, that's my concern. Most my riding is either highway or country roads, so handling is a must. Anyone tried just dropping from (I believe my 06' stock rides 12.5 in shocks) from stock to progressive 11 inch?

Might just be better off doing a 2-3in tank lift and an aftermarket seat instead. By the way twelveHD, your bike looks sick as hell, what highway pegs and mounting kit is that? That's another must item I need to get

I went from stock 12.5" to the progressive 412HD in 11". Way to stiff for my weight. Could not clear the speed bumps without walking it over. Try at least 12" on ricors or similar and you can screw them down a bit.

I would say raise it up instead of lower it. I've seen some street bobs with 13 and 13.5 shocks floating around here they look like they would be tons of fun.

I ran Burlys for a while. Loved the look but my handling did suffer. I scraped my pegs quite a bit and even managed to drag my primary once which caused the *** end to step out enough to make my *** pucker. Since then Ive swapped to an 18" rear wheel with some 11.5 shocks. I managed to get the look I was shooting for AND better handling than stock so it was a win win.
