I did..but the cats meow is suppose to be to go to straight rate springs (stock springs are a progressive type) Difference is night and day for handeling.

If you have a newer dyna I would go with the 5w amzoil shock therapy instead of the 10W

great pics + info, i am looking into a super glide, presently on an 06 sporty, most harleys have poor suspension + braking, i used the FXDX cartridge setup on the sporty, YSS triple adj shocks + hawg halter 6 piston caliper with ferodo sintered pads and brake-tech super-axe floating rotors for the cure. presently researching what you dyna guys like, have a few $$ to spend and i believe in done once + right is the best route

Default Changes.......

I like what you are doing here to your FXD, I particularly like your Suspension mods. I just picked up a new 2013 FXDC last week and I'm doing a lot of the same things.

I've already added a set of 13" Progressive shocks, Corbin touring seat, Leather Pro bags and laydown plate with a BAL rear brake light. I'd really like to upgrade the front forks and I'm going to look into your Works Spring suggestion.

The difference between the stock shocks and the Progressive's was like going from a hardtail to a stock Dyna suspension. It was totally Night & Day and the longer shocks really improved the over all handling of the bike. Plenty of ground clearance and no more harsh ride, they just soak up all those nasty bumps.

One thing I'm really looking to improve is the stopping power of the stock brakes. I'm looking at either a PM 6 piston brake caliper with a floating rotor or the Brembo oversized brake kit. Which ever way I decide it has to be compatible with the factory ABS system.

Ride Safe,
P

Right on ! Hey, let me give some input on the brakes. I bought a Performance Machine (PM) 6-piston front caliper that I mated to my almost-new stock floating disc and a PM 4-piston rear caliper kit. The stock brakes worked better ! The stock brakes have a larger swept area for the pads, bigger pads. I'm not sure about the piston sizes but, again, the stock set-up was better so I put the stock brakes back on and sold the PM stuff.

The PM looked good. If it had worked at least as well as stock, I would have kept it just for the looks !

The stock front single caliper works adequately for me. If anything, I might replace the stock rotor with a 13 inch PM rotor. To do this, a special offset bracket is required for the caliper to mate to the larger disc. The FLH series bracket adapters will not work on the Dyna. Somebody makes an adapter for the Dyna but I've forgotten who it is.

This upgrade would kill $500 and I don't know if it's worth it for me. I use EBC pads and the stock set-up is ok.

This was soon after installing the PM. Notice the disc markings. You can see how much wider the stock pads are.

OK I reread your post a few times and am confused...can you simplify it for me and just tell me about the parts you ended up using including cost and website links...
Thanks...it looks like a good upgrade

1.Fork cartridges from Works Performance ( abt 400). Talk to Pierre.

http://www.worksperformance.com/html/new_products.html

2.Rear shocks, Ohlins 909 superceded by 159, (abt 800-900 pair), max ride height about 13.2 inches.
Be sure to check your sag and return for proper springs if necessary. Talk to Jerry at Ohlins USA in NC for help. Sidekick Gary is the shop man.

3. Sputhe Stabilizer from Alan Sputhe, True Track also sells similar but the Sputhe looks better. (370)

http://sputhe.com/

4. Stock low rise Sportster handlebars for better control. Be sure to check side to side turning to make sure no contact with gas tank.

5. Stock FXRS pegs for greater lean angle. Cram foam rubber into the hollow parts of these pegs to make them stiffer.

HD 50643-82 right 50647-82 left

6. Sundowner seat

7. Stock brakes (for now)

By the way, that nylon tie set-up on the fork leg is a sensor unit for a Cateye Bicycle speedometer that I use for a heads-up speed reminder when whipping the dogs. Thats a radar led light next door.
