Default Red Line w/ shockproof

Hey guys,

i changed my transmission fluid and used Red Line transmission oil with Shock proof and what a differance It was so smooth i didin't even know i was shifting. everybody told me to use the same oil that i put in the motor but i would have to say they are wrong. i did put royal purple in the motor and will let know what i think about it as of right now it seems like it is running a little cooler but with temps close to 100 in mississippi i cant tell. it is HOT even if the motor is off!! lol

I agree on the redline. I put it in mine and it shifts super smooth, not to mention the big clunk when switching gears is all but gone.

Me too! Used it for years in the diffs of my 2 vipers and then in the diff of my 600hp Camaro. Then I read here on the forum that guys were putting it in their trannies and decided to try it since I had some here. Smoother and WAY quieter. I'm sold. My buddy who runs the largest Harley shop in the Montreal area told me he's seen Redline shockproof turn almost to a paste and told me to take it out but the tranny sounds and feels so much better that I'm leaving it in. I will keep an eye on it though.

What weight is the red line tranny fluid? If it's 90-140 it would make a big diffrence than lighter oil. Heavier oil works better in the tranny, Quiets it down from clunks to.

I've always liked the clunk, all part of the Harley experience. I've never been on a mission to "quiet my bike down". But cooler temps wouldn't hurt...

Redline for me in the tranny also. I was running synthetic in all three holes, but my local indy (HD qualified mechanic) warned me of some issues he has seen with synthetic oil. He wasnt biased on any conventional oils, just said make sure its make for air cooled v-twin. He also said that depending on who you talk to you will get their version of what works best and why (we all have seen plenty of that!)

He said when we was going to school he was taught about the issues, and he actually saw some of the issues working on a couple of bikes. I dont know exactly what he was saying as I am not a gear head. Something to do with the type of bearings HD's use and the fact that synthetic oil is really good at creeping into every little nook and cranny.

Again, I am not a gear head. But this guy knows his stuff and I trust him so I went with his recommendation.

But back to the subject at hand, Redline in the tranny works awesome for me!

Clunk would mean gears are slamming together with no cushioning, no clunk would mean things are working much better & cooler. anybody know what wt the red line is?

I believe its around 75w140.

I've thought about using it but not sure where to get it around here.
