So I rode to Laconia, encountered lots of rain as usual, noticed on my way back that at full throttle it would not accelerate like it used to at speed, seems to gain speed slowly, at a stop I can rev the engine no problem, I checked the jets in the carb and replaced the carb to intake seal, has improved some, Could it be the MASS air flow sensor that is attached to the carb malfunctioning and not advancing the timing, I haven't checked the slide and diaphragm, but it does makes a vacuum like sound when I push up on it and release it.
Hmm, no Mass air sensor on a carb bike (not sure on an Harley that I am aware of for that matter...) so not sure what you are talking about there ?
I'd start by replacing the plugs. More msifires are plugs than any other cause in my experience and they are cheap and easy.
Next I'd double check that intake leak. Get a spray can of something (WD40 works well but brake cleaner is fine too) and spray around the intake seals while the bike is running. If the idle rpm changes you have a leak still.
I'd guess that between either the plugs or whatever you last messed with (the intake seals) you'll be fixed. Good luck!
When was the last time you checked your fuel filter?
It's always a good idea to check your plugs and for intake and exhaust leaks. However, don't use brake cleaner to look for an intake leak, use carb cleaner.
" don't use brake cleaner to look for an intake leak, use carb cleaner"
Er really? Carb cleaner is packed w carcinogens (at least the good stuff is) and brake cleaner is pretty much designed not to be. The need is for something with propellant that will cause the mixture to change and therefore the rpms to fluctuate.
If you wanna get sick in the process up to you ; -)
I think the idea is that brake cleaner is super corrosive as carb cleaner is more mild on the solvent side of things. Brake cleaner will have more of a chance of damaging your finish on the jugs, etc
