I just had a similar problem caused by the add on led brake light. The problem is defiantly in your new wiring (a frayed wire or loose connection). Red light on speedo on Lo Range on display and gas light on. Gas gauge not working. I took it to the dealer assuming a warranty issue. The tech found the wiring had gotten out of the holders and rubbed on the tire and frayed. He said the canbus system is so temperamental that just unplugging the horn can cause a problem sometimes. Let us know what it turns out being.
I thought that as well but the holes in the mounting bolts are far to small to fit 1 let alone 3 wires in.
I did this same mod. I do remember it being tight. But it did work. This could be your problem area.

A blown fuse just simply means "No-Worky". These new ECM's are very sensitive to electrical faults. And they act very strange when there is one. They are so advanced that you don't even have fuses for some things anymore. The ECM monitors the circuit protection.

Glad I am not the only one. I will fully pull the wiring tonight and look it all over.
More than likely, a tire wore through one of your turn signal wires...creating a short, and blowing the fuse. Happened on my 02, but along with the lights...the fuse controlled the entire console also. So no speedo, or indicator lights.
Check the wiring...then replace your fuse. Im sure there is one that is blown.

Hmmm.... I have the quick disconnect hardware installed on mine too. While getting the wires through the bolts is not easy or fun it can definitely be done.
Best method would be to get new terminals for the end of the wires and then crimp them on after you feed the wires through.
My method (kinda sketchy) is to use some dish soap as lubricant and then to use the wires to help feed each other through. Basically I install the first one, which is always easy. Then back it out and put the terminal from the second in as far as I can get it. When I start pulling on the first it will also pull the second through. Then repeat for the third. I've done this several times now with pretty good success, the only thing you gotta worry about is messing up the insulation around the wires. First 2 times there were some scrapes but no exposed wire. Then this last time I did rip through the one wires insulation completely so I had to use some dual wall heat shrink to seal it up.
And we have a winner! Pulled the lights and sure enough the left had gotten pulled into the wheel. Mangled the hell out of the wiring. Was about a 25min fix just ran all new wiring with a little added length and tucked it all up nicely and zip tied it in place under the seat. Hopefully this is the last I have of this issue. Bike goes in tomorrow for its 1K service then next week off to Hells Canyon Bike Rally. Thanks for the info guys. Damn glad I didnt just admit defeat and take it to the shop.
Congratulations. Way to stick with it. I get intimidated by auto and MC electrical also. Just recently bought my first HD and am looking forward to making some mods. I am anxious to get started-I just need to find some funds (FYI-I am accepting donations!) After reading through a good portion of this forum, I am sure I can tackle most anything that comes up with the help of this forum...
