So frustrated right now...i have been looking for a month to find the right bags. I have a detachable backrest (FROM HD), i am looking to get a set of saddlebags that will work with the mounting hardware I already have, when i have the backrest mounted.I have checked with JP and with Viking..and they dont seem to be able to help,Dealer can set me up for about 900.00.I am really thinking I should be able to get hooked up for less money than that. Am I being unreasonable on my expectations? I find it hard to justify that expense for the occasional out of town trip. Would also be a plus if the bags were lockable.
Has anyone done this? What did you use ?
They are essentially the same bags (I think brothers own the two companies). You can save some $ over the HD bags and get the best bags on the market. Both styles can be locked, are quick detach, and look great on a Superglide.
I went with the Boss Bags because I found some used on the classifieds for $425 shipped. I love the way they mount close to the strut and still allow room for my quick detach sissybar when I want it. They come with all hardware to mount so you don't have any more expense.
If you are patient, you can find them used. You can get LeatherPros from several HD dealers cheaper than the LeatherPro site (don't remember who, do a search and you will find them).
I have a set of leatherworks saddlebags on my dyna. they are throwovers but the company makes detachable bags as well and also sell brackets to fit any set up. great people to work with as well. Also just my opinion there bags are made out of better leather than HD. I got mine for 431$ shipped to my door.
