Default thunderheader angle on fxdx?

I've seen some pictures of Thunderheaders on Dynas where the pipe is mounted straight, level with the ground, and some others where the pipe is angled up a bit. Are some years straight and others angled, or can it be adjusted when installed?

Also, is the pipe for the '99-'05 Dynas one piece, or is the pipe separate from the headers?

It only comes one way. Some people have cut and welded theirs so that it sits higher off the ground. Had a TH on my FXDXT and never scraped it but I did scrape the pegs numerous times so if you are running stock height shocks I would not worry about it. That being said I'll never buy another TH product for my bikes. The bracket cracked, was welded and cracked again. I sold it and got a D&D fatcat.

My new bagger had a TH on it when I bought it and it had a crack in the rear head pipe. Welded it and expect it to break again but has not yet. I love the sound and power but I have to draw the line somewhere.

I think the reason some look different than others is because of the shock length. If you are using the swing arm as your point of reference as to whether it is level or swept up then you are being deceived because of the swing arms relation to the frame due to shock length. When I switched from 11.5" shocks (it looked level) to 13.5" shocks (above the swing arm) it changed the angle of the rear of the pipe. I'll try to remember to post a pic of each one when I get home if you like. At least that's what I think causes it. Mine is on a 2002 and they are one piece.

Funny how everyone likes different things here! I like the way the upsweep looks on the pipe, and am wondering if they come that way for the '99-'05's. Does anyone know?

btw, small world fxdxharley. I lived in Barrington for 10 years before moving to ATL. I'll be up there visiting friends in 3 weeks.

Default fxdx

its the shocks that change the angle, look up a theader on a bike with burly slammers, then look up a theader on a bike with 13.5 inch shocks....low shocks will sit the pipe below the swingarm long shocks will raise the pipe up above the swingarm (kind off) use google images you will see your answer

It's because of shock length. I put fxdx shocks on my streetbob and my thunderheader went from levelyp upswept. Which I happen to like. Even with the taller shocks I still scrape the pipe often. But not nearly as much as with the stock shocks.

Thanks for the explanations about the shock length. That makes sense.

As others have said shock length may create a little difference. However, the only way to achieve the "upsweep" look is to modify the pipe at the junction. Many have done this to eliminate scraping. I had Joe at Powderpro do this modification to my Bub Lakester and it no longer scrapes.

I thought the TH pipes scraped at the front, on the front headpipe. Do they also scrape at the back?
