I always put a large ziploc bag over my a/c and use blue tape to seal it off. I also take the seat off and use a few strips of blue tape over the opening under the seat. Then use a soapy mitt to wash with, light rinse spray with the hose, finish with the leaf blower. About an hour from start to finish. Works great for me.
OP: Let her dry off a bit longer. Also, dry the pcv connector. Good luck!
I put a plastic bag over my air cleaner and zip it shut and wet the bike with the garden hose. I use diluted simple green on the underside and wash soap on the rest. Dry off with leaf blower to get all the water off the electrical connections and detail with wet sloppy towel and dry with a 100% cotton towel. No scratches or problems.
I am thinking that this might could also happen if you get caught in heavy rain, ya know.
A couple of things about water and electrical connections in airplanes I learned along the way...You can fill inside of electrical connectors with dielectric silicone grease to keep the water out and shorting around the contacts. Something like CRC Lectra Seal sprayed on the outside of the connectors will help keep water out.
I take the seat and bags off, cover the electrical wiring under the seat with a couple of towels, and wash with hot soapy water and a sponge and rinse with the sprayer shower setting. I keep away from the AC and carb, and electrical wiring and connectors. I usually let it air-dry and wipe it down with a damp towel before polishing.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah I'm never using water again haha. I know its not the air filter because I covered it well. However I did find the water in the PCV connection, dumped it out, dried it, dielectric grease. Filled up with water again somehow, blew it out with water again super good, still running rough, we'll see what Power Commander support says, hopefully I don't have to send it back in. Rock n' roll'

Put some dielectric grease in the connector for the crank position sensor and the map sensor.
Especially the crank sensor.
The sensor is usally good or bad however the connector gets corroded and water shorts it out.
The grease keeps the water out and keeps it from corroding.
