So I have been monitoring my 2006 FXDLI that I purchased in May for any signs of IPB issues, without any problems. On Sunday I rode to Myrtle Beach, about three hours from where I live. I got off the highway and slowed down and at about 45 it sounded just like the roller skate wheel everyone was talking about. Going into Neutral sounded lower and louder, I took it over this morning to Myrtle Beach HD and they were able to check it out today. Of course the IPB needs to be replaced. The only good news is that they will be able to remove and cap my mid shifter shaft that I was planning on sawing and removing when I installed my new primary cover.
I don't have many options since I am stranded down here until it can get fixed, so I gave them the go ahead to fix the problem at cost to me. Yes, about $170 in parts, and around $300 in labor, but it's kind of my own fault for not doing my research before purchase in May (and could also be why I got it so cheap). The good news is that I was able to identify the problem sounds and not have it lock up on me on the highway.
As far as I know this is the first replacement, but since it is being done by the dealership it should stay on record if there are further problems.
Sigh, and two whole days of riding over vacation lost.
glad you caught it on time, I will trade problems with you, my bike has been out of service for 2.5 weeks due to an inner cam bearing that let go and took out my motor, 5500.00 for complete rebuild, but that includes SE cam plate oil pump and SE 203 cams
I don't mean to **** in your corn flakes but if they only change the bearing/race you could have repeat failure(s).
After 3rd failure they also changed the trans case, and I hope that will be it!!!..

Got my fingers crossed on that, if I were home I would toy with the idea of doing everything myself, but being on the road with just a toolkit rules that out.

3 hours, I would ride it back home and fix it correctly with the Baker bearing, Screamin Eagle Compensator, 40 amp stator, and SE clutch spring. All for less than the dealer will ream you for their junk.
If you haven't already done so, you should take a look at the thread "Finally, Good News - Inner Primary Bearing" here in the DYNA section. It's an old thread and very long but, it's a wealth of knowledge! And it still comes up some years later!
This is what enabled me to have an informed conversation with my local dealers service manager to land me a "Full Monty" ('07 inner primary case, '07 transmission case, new IPB, and Stator/rotor assy) all on the MoCo's dime!

Hope this helps....

I had the same thing done to my bike first time around with the problem and they fixed it right.
I rode my bike for a couple months during the second failure. I wanted to finish the riding season before I lost the bike for weeks while they did the full monty on mine. You should have no problem finishing your vacation and riding it 3 hours back home.
Well, I considered that, but I'll bite the bullet on this one, I guess. If it goes out again I'll bring up the full replacement of 07-08 primary parts so it is corrected. I am not quite sure if they are replacing more than just the bearing, I guess I will find out tomorrow when I pick it up.
