Life is to be lived. This one is a no brainier. One of the reasons for being a teacher is so you can take long trips on your bike every summer, isn't it? Have a great time and send pictures. Oh, and after the first day tell the sweetheart to go home with the trailer.
I couldn't agree more. You'll get a lot more out of it accomplishing it solo.
Sitting here in 'Bama...didn't get out of Houston until Wed afternoon and rolled into Anniston late yesterday afternoon. Gonna spend a couple of days and then head back. It's been one hell of a ride so far!
I hear ya there and that's why I rode all the way from Kirkland, WA to Fallon, NV and back this weekend. Who knows when, if ever, I'll get a chance to do that again?
Got back in yesterday. It rained every day I was in Anniston and I discovered that I cannot ride in rainstorms...even with a good rain suit and full face helmet I got soaked and could not see anything. I was down to 45 mph and hoping I didn't run off of the road...Finally had enough of the rain and rolled the bike on a trailer and towed it out of the rain cells south of Meridian, Mississippi, on I-59 before hopping back on and heading on home. I lost one of my new highway pegs along the way and unfortunately, when I cranked back up after I filled up in Vidor, Texas, I had developed a loud grinding noise coming from the primary and I had to roll it back on the trailer and tow it to the Harley dealer here in Houston. They think it might be the clutch basket or something to do with the new stator that they just installed or the rotor (that extended warranty just keeps paying for itself). I really had a blast and learned some things about long road trips on motorcycles that should make the next one a little better. As much as it annoyed me, having my sweetie following with the trailer ended up working out real convenient after all.
Ok, I am confused. You said you had a month off and wanted to take a long trip. 7-17 to 7- 25. That's a long weekend? I ran 1000 miles last weekend. A long trip should include burning off a set of tires. I do like the idea of your gal doing follow up. Keep yourself comfy on the summer nights. Get that bad boy squared away and run that puppy.
