I found out that in order to start a class action suit I need to have 349 complaintants that have had either IPB or Stator failures.

This is what the CVO crowd did regarding the issues on the 2007 110 motors.

Now I need to figure out a way to get the word out regarding this.

If I recall.. there was a registry thread on the HD Forum regarding it. I need to contact the moderators on this forum before I post anything like that.

From what little I know about the CVO 110 case, I think the law firm put up a web page where owners could register their complaints.

Then I suppose it would be a matter of giving a short description of the case, and a link to the "sign up" web page on all the various Harley forums, not just hdforums.com.

When I said that information could be gotten during "discovery", I kind of mis-spoke anyway. One goal would be to have enough information up front to throw at them, so they believe they would probably lose a lawsuit, and maybe settle before a lawsuit even needs to be filed.

Yea, that's what they did with the CVO thing. I never heard if it actually ever went to court. What I did hear was Harley ended up taking care of their customers. They don't need all 349 complaintants from me. They just need enough info to decide if they would be interested in moving forward with the suit. I am in the process of compiling every bit of info I can find online. There are several forums that are loaded with owners with these issues. This forum alone has ALOT of people.

In the car industry when there is a KNOWN and fully documented issue with something on a car they issue a recall and you are able to bring your car in and get the issue taken care of PRIOR to a failure occurring.
With these particular issues on the 2006 6 speed dyna's Harley won't even attempt to do anything until AFTER you have a failure. That's crazy. We are talking about being on a motorcycle that could potentially leave you totally stranded if you have the rotor/cup issue. Regarding the IPB.. its a totally known issue, they know they should have had the 2 locating dowels in the inner primary case/tranny case and that's why there are failures. The dealers know it, the service managers know it, the technicians know it. The only people that don't know it are the people that own the bikes. Its not acceptable for Harley to not even acknowledge the problem until after you are stranded somewhere with a broken bike. There should have been a recall issued for both of these problems back in 2006. The Harley Davidson dealerships should NOT be allowed to sell a 2006 Dyna 6 speed without addressing both of these KNOWN issues. I bought mine last year with 5000 miles on it from the dealership. I asked SPECIFICALLY if there were any issues with the 2006 Dyna Wideglide that I bought and they said no and that the bike was completely inspected prior to me purchasing it. When I pushed them months later after I found out about the issues they denied them and told me its an internet witch hunt. After speaking to the service manager and the head mechanic in private they both acknowledged that both issues are huge problems that MUST be addressed if I don't want to end up stuck on the side of the road with a torn up stator or the more common IPB failure. I asked if I could bring the bike in to get the work done prior to a failure and they told me they can't do ANYTHING with mother Harley regarding the costs until I break down somewhere and have the bike towed in. That's crap.

This is not true the car industry will hide problems too, I bought a 2011 mustang GT brand new and started having problems with the tranny and on the forums alot of other people were reporting the same thing. When i took mine in to get it checked they wouldn't even look at it and claimed that what I was telling them was normal. From what I hear a couple of models later they completly changed the transmision design but still won't do anything about the other ones unless they completly self destruct. I got rid of it as soon as I could and will never buy another ford even a used one.
I have an 06" street bob that I bought a few months ago and have noticed the noise with the clutch out but I was already thinking about replacing the clutch pack so I'l also fix everything else at the same time. I'm not too upset about it because I got a good deal on the bike.

We have two bikes, which my wife and I use interchangeably. Fortunately, I happened to be the one driving the Dyna when it crapped out. A female motorcyclist broken down on the side of the road somewhere presents a serious safety problem. It's not like they can lock themselves in the car until help arrives.

Yet Harley refuses to take care of this known defect until it results in a breakdown (if even then), nor do they warn owners about it. And they continue to recruit female riders and buyers. Harley has a serious potential liability problem on their hands, and isn't handling it in a very smart way.

I'm very much in favor of someone, or a group of owners taking legal action, if that's what it takes to get Harley to "do the right thing". Under consumer law, a manufacturers responsibility isn't necessarily just limited to the warranty period.

Well, best of luck to you guys trying to take on the MoCo. I guess I just have a different frame of mind. I bought my bike used, didn't buy the warrantee, and got a great deal on my bike. For a little over 100 bucks for a bearing, gaskets and a bottle of red loc-tite, I spent an afternoon in my garage listening to music and having fun doing "preventative maintenance" and getting to know my bike. If endless hours on the phone and arguing with customer service reps (they will NEVER admit fault. They are trained not to for insurance/liability reasons) is your cup of tea, then more power to you. I just don't have the patience/drive to go through all that noise. I fixed the problems on my bike and have ridden it and enjoyed it for thousands of trouble free miles afterwards. It sounds weird, but I have a greater love for my bike after I tore it apart and did that stuff. It made it feel more like "my bike" instead of just a motorcycle. Good luck to you guys though.

This reflects my view as the owner of an 06 dyna. I ride it and worry about repairing it if and when it breaks (and mine at the HP ant TQ it makes may likely do that more frequently than most). To spend hours fretting about a problem that might occur just isn't in my make up. I do not have limitless resources and repairing the bike on my own dime is a reality but I still choose to ride and enjoy it rather than be stuck on a maybe. Should Harley step up? Maybe if the number of failures warrants it, but that doesn't seem to be the case. There have been a couple of threads trying to get those that have had IPB or stator issues come forward (likely to start some sort of class action like the 07 CVO group did) but they don't seem to have rallied enough support to move forward yet.

Best of luck to those pursuing this though my think is you will reap more frustration than success in your search.

Regarding the last two posts, maybe some people are OK with dropping their pants, bending over, and grabbing their ankles. Others look for other options. Nothin' wrong with that.

If some of us weren't willing to go into battle, where would the rest of you be?

Interesting that resort to disrespectful illustrations regarding those who present an experience different than yours. You of all those posting had reason to express frustration having experienced a failure and receiving no support from HD when others had after experiencing similar failures. In case you didn't know this, your success in getting MOCO to stand behind a failure starts at the local service department. If the local dealer is willing to go to bat for you, you will likely succeed in getting HD to help out with the problem even if it is out of the warranty period.

I too have researched all of the threads and as I have stated three times (you should read this slowly so you can comprehend the words this time), MOCO simply won't address a problem that does not yet exist (as expressed by those who fret over the problems others are experiencing) so instead of sitting home making payments on a bike I won't ride for fear of a parts problem that may occur.

As for going into battle, been there done that. Having served nearly 10 years active duty to defend the right of free speech (even to those like you who treat people you have never met with disrespect), I am comfortable with who I am and trust my skills on the battlefield and in the realm of treating others fairly even when their opinion varies from mine (a skill you apparently never developed).

If that made sense to you, I'm a little, uh, beyond having any idea how to respond.
