Internal combustion engines are made to run on gas and air, feeding dirty oil into the engine reduces performances.

Engines also run better the cooler the air is. By Not pushing that hot crankcase air into the engine like most other A/C's do, the DK Outlaw A/C's further increase performance.

Besides a performance benefit, there is also another benefit. Reduced carbon build-up on the pistons.

There are hundreds of people just on this forum every year that make a post about how they have not done anything different, but after x number of months their bike has started pinging.

Almost every time this is because carbon from that dirty oily crankcase air has built up on their pistons. This reduces engine longevity and also will probably require that they spend more time/money retuning the bike to get rid of the pinging/pre-detonation.

Besides the above benefits, we use lower-profile K&N filters that result in more leg room from the A/C not pushing your right leg out from the bike.

Lots of design options too.
Where do the crank cases vent to? If its something thats not needed then why does MOCO create them? Not trying to be a dick just trying to figure out if they are needed for anything other than emissions BS.

No problem.

All engines have to vent the crankcase pressure somewhere. The EPA does not want that dirty oily air going into the atmosphere, so they make MFG vent them back into the engine.

We have two different styles that both vent into the atmosphere.

Breather Bolts -

or

The Traditional Hose and filter system -

See details on both styles HERE

So on those breather bolts....dont you get some oil condensation and dripping down the side of your engine with that method? I like the idea tho.

I'm inclined to agree. Maybe an aftermarket oiled cotton gauze filter will produce 4 more horsepower when it's new and squeaky clean, but it goes downhill from there. And it passes a lot more dirt.

One of my bikes still has the stock filter, and that's probably what I'll stay with.

I have the DK Customs filter on my bike. I have never had oil drip on the side of my engine. I think that may only happen if you let your bike sit for an extended period of time without starting it. If you do, that oil would go into your stock filter anyway. I love the DK air filter. Go for it.

I have a v&h drak black on my wide glide now and have been thinking about replacing with a dk. Is that a hard switch to make for a not so mechanically inclined individual such as myself? And will I need a retune?

So wouldn't this be a violation?
How can your AC do that and other companies have to play by the rules?
Or is abiding by the EPA regulations optional?

I'm leaning towards a Cobra Powerflow A/C they just look cool!

yes. its a violation of epa regs. the same way putting exhaust pipes on that do not have an epa stamp on them is a violation of epa regs ( and state laws in some cases) as is any modification to the stock exhaust ( drilling baffles / removing cats..) . heck in california remapping the fi can be a violation of state laws. as well as removing the evap canister.

however even with the strictest emmisions laws in the country CHP wont write you a ticket unless your belching smoke/fire or silly loud. CARB however does go after dealerships/shops that knowingly install parts that are not CARB certified.

the way companies get around that is the products get marked for competition/off road/show use absolving the mfg from liability and passing it on to the end user.

that being said. my 587 should show up tommorow.
