It's been a few years since I've owned a Harley......first bike was an 883. I've come across a 1997 FXDC with 40k miles. The seller is asking 6k. I've seen the bike around town, and visually it's killer......just wondering about the mileage???? What is the typical number of miles before the engine needs work? Also, does the price seem fair, I feel like it is, but I've been out of the loop for a few years.

If it's in good shape and you want an Evo I say grab it. Price is good. At 40k that motor is just getting broken in. Should expect an easy 100k with proper maintenance. Guess it depends how well it's been maintained until now. I say check it out.

 

Fully agree the Evo is a great motor. Your biggest worry is corrosion. If the bike is clean and well taken care of, it's a winner.
