Supposed to leave on a 2 week road trip tomorrow. Bike is still down. Intermittent problem with front cylinder cutting out, not coil, not ignition, my mechanic buddy who is troubleshooting while I have to work thinks it is a short somewhere. Crank and Cam sensors tested ok.
It costs over $1500 to rent a bike for 2 weeks. My brother is one of the head salesman at Motor City Harley Davidson, so gonna go chat with him tonight after work. See what we can work out, cheaper to get a new ride and sell it when I get back. I could make 6 payments before I would hit the cost of rental.
Bummer that you are having problems with your sweet ride.
Hope you are able to get a bike for your trip and enjoy 2 weeks on the road!
Thanks man, me and my buddy George who built my motor and who is troubleshooting for me both know it is really minor issue, just tracking it down is a problem on such short notice. I have reservations made along the way for the trip and a buddy who is counting on me so I can't back out. It stinks, but I'm gonna try and move on and have a good time. He is currently swapping sensors and testing with another 2000 model he has, even though they tested OK
Don't forget to factor in taxes, registration and any other add-ons - might be cheaper to rent. Maybe find somebody and give them $1000 to borrow their ride for 2 weeks?

Yeah, I'm going to chat with my Bro tonight before his shop closes, figure all that out. Get an OTD price with all that included. They got a couple fat bobs already set up with bags and backrest for me to strap my tailbag to, and a couple sweet road kings in stock. I have been considering adding a new bike anyway, so I may just end up keeping it.
And another problem with borrowing a bike, is we will be doing some riding through Canada, and I don't want to be crossing borders with a registration in somebody else's name.
Well it looks like I'll be picking up a 2009 Fat Bob with 1900mi for a pretty low price OTD thanks to my sibling relations lol. They will be throwing some 12" T bars and a detachable screen on it so it is ready for the trip. Trip will be delayed until Tuesday morning.
I was thinking of going Road King or Street Glide, and I still might do so in the future, but this will have to do for the trip.
Trip sounds like fun! Too bad your bike is down. I've borrowed bikes for trips before, and though it is always good to ride, one can't help but think about the bike that's back home.
I'd bet your mechanic's already checked, but one suspect is loose battery lug bolts. I was out on a ride and the rear cylinder just quit. I limped home and the only thing I could find was just that. They were finger loose, I didn't know it. The cylinder immediately fired up and it hasn't fouled since. I can't explain it, but I've read many stories of Harleys doing strange things with low battery voltages.
