Default Ape Hanger Install questions.

Hello all,

I've been lingering in this forum for a while and I finally joined.
I read a post on here from "Thebestofindica" and it was very helpful during the process of changing the mini ape's out for 18" fatbars on my 07 Streetbob. However, he used the stock controls and I did not. I have all new aftermarket chrome controls. I have run into a few problems and hope someone who is a whis can assist. The bars came prewired with a extension harness so all I had to do is wire up the connectors. Unlike "thebestofindica" I took the easy way and cut the harness of the stock bars and butt connected them without disassembling the connectors. I noticed on my 07 that there is what appears to be a neutral safety switch just under the clutch lever. This was not included on my new controls. No biggie though, I just drilled the holed and installed it on the new controls, ran the wore through the bars and then..... I noticed there is an actuator on the stock lever to activate the switch but it was not on the aftermarket lever. SO.... i decided to tie off the two wires on the connector until I can buy a chrome OEM lever with the actuator. Currently, I have ordered but not recieved all the cable necessary for completion. Keep this in mind when I describe the problem. SO I install the bars, run the connectors down in the grommets and plug them in. plug in turn signals also. replace fuel pump fuse and turn on the key. First I check the lights and notice the front turn signals are both on all the time. I can't remember but I think this is NOT correct. Brake light works, high/low beam works, horn works. Turn signals do not, hazards do not and fuel pump and start do not. Now the star may be disabled due to me tying the two ends of the neutral safety switch together but the bike is in neutral so it shouldnt matter. also the fuel pump should still turn on. I guess i'm gonna dig back in with a meter and start tracing but maybe someone else has had issues with aftermarket switches. Maybe they are normally open instead of closed or vice versa? I'll attach a current pic since posts with no pictures suck!!! Thanks all.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the bike.
Thats what this forum is for!!!!

As for the Rinehart.....

Fit and finish.....Amazing.
Sound and tone......great.
Volume.........perfect.

Performance.......Still on the fence.
I have the PCIII USB and I have downloaded the map for my combination. However, I am disappointed in the performance. I'm still tweaking but I really thought I was gonna be impressed. I'm not.I suppose you can only get so much power without internal work but still feel like it should be better. Thats the truth in my experience.
Probably should of got a Thunder header if I wanted performance.
Overall though its a nice piece.

Thanks

Default Update

Ok, I have found a fuse that pops everytime I turn on the key. Seems to be in the right side controls since I unplugged that connector and everything left works without spending the fuse. I'll find the short but in the mean time can anybody tell me what the fuse goes to? I can't find my manual. its the last row toward the back of the bike. there were three and its the middle one, 15a. This is an 07 streetbob. Thanks to anyone reading this.

Solved! Operator error!! I had a wire that snuck in and got pinched between the controls on the right side. Everything is working great!! 18" here we come!

Oh man I love it! Just a couple changes and she'll be exactly how I want. 21"wheel, stripper seat and some engine work (i.e. heads, cam).

Mine came with all that brushed stainless crap, you know the struts and battery trim cover. I changed all that to Chrome with the detachable docking kit for the luggage rack/sissybar. added the pipe, SE air cleaner and power commander with the Rinehart. Just about finished now that I have them bars on it.

P.S. Your ride looks great!! What pipe are you running on that?
