My bro (actual brother) and maybe a buddy and Iare heading to the Sturgis area in late June. We will be leaving Bowling Green, KY headingwest across south MO and KS to Dodge City then Garden City then north thru NB and into SD. Approx 1,600 miles. We are in the 55 age group and was wondering if there are any places any of you know of that we should try to see or avoid oreven a better route. We were expecting at least 2 weeks for the trip. We will riding a Street Bob, a Honda VTX 1800, and a Road King. Any input will be appreciated.
Between I25 and I-44 is some of the most boring roadways in the US. Not much to see, mile after mile of open farm land. A reall snoozer of a trip. And dang hot, too!
Dodge City is an interesting tourist town, with a real history that you have to look for. South of Dodge City is the little town of Mead. That's the site of the Dalton Gang hideout. Kinda intersting if you're in the area. In Liberal Kansas you'll find the mid-america air museum.
Don't head north from there. Very boring. Continue further west into the rocky mountains. Much more interesting and fun.
But if you must, Carhenge is in NB, outside of Alliance. Cabella's is in Sidney. The ride up 385 todeadwood is very nice. Much better than 83 through KS.
Thanks for the input Bob. We are veryinterested in museums, auto, air, military, etc., not much for the sewing museum and the like. I'd take bets that we go to Liberal. 83 and 385 is on our route list, for now.
All we have to go by is a road atlas. We were looking at taking 60 across southern MO, 160 across southern KS toLiberal then north on 83 to NB, maybe 25 to 385 north to SD. There may be some side trips along the way ifwe see a promising sign. We are probably going to Liberal, KS thanks to bobcowan. It's about 1600 miles to Sturgis. We have no route planned for the returntrip home. I looked at all interstate coming home and the milage was 1300. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
