Default Touchy people on here.

I guess by some standards if you dont make or do all your own custom work you are some sort of fraud. I was razzed about suggesting to someone instead of sanding, priming, painting a horn cover that you could get the part powder coated for about 10 bucks. I was labeled a "gold card" harley rider. I guess all you people who dont paint, make your own bars or what not are just frauds and "gold card" harley riders according to this fella. To me its kinda going out on a limb. I like the approach of KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Its all about the ideas of the custom bike not who makes all the individual parts. Nobody on here makes all their parts themselves. Or do they ? LOL
I just think some people dont like the evolution of change and techonolgy. With the machining thats out there right now it is probably cheaper to buy a part or have it done for you than spend hours upon hours doing it yourself. I understand the gratifacation of making some parts yourself, but when it cuts into riding time then I think its a bad choice. I would rather ride than sit around trying to paint horn covers. Oh well I just had to get that off my chest. I know I know, I am rambling, but some people just tick me off.

there area lot of people on here and in life that carry chips on their shoulder. If its not their way "you're a waste of good air." screw em! do what you want and flash your gold card if you want. Life is about what YOU want not what others think is right.

Yea,, dont worry about it.. I do as much of the Fab and Mod work that I can. When I run into something I need help with, I look to others,, Lots of help here in the forum,, But sumetime the best, safest, most professional way to get something done is to pay for it... I dont know who you were referring too, but I'll bet ya they didnt build their bike from the ground up,, Somewhere in time they too, had to 'Gold Card' it.......
With all that being said, there is something special about doing it your self,, A pride knowing its one of a kind.... And you took the time to do it your way.............

I have ZERO fabricating skills. I can't nail two boards together and expect them to stay that way and the last thing I painted was a Revell jet airplane kit. I was 11. My sparse collection of tools is scattered from hell to breakfast across my garage, having been pillaged by my sons and their friends. I wish I had the skills and the tools, but I recognize my weaknesses and exploit my strengths. If your computer fails, call me. If you need a network designed, provisioned, and implemented,I'm your guy.

I use my AA credit card to pay for the things I cannot fabricate and for the service work I don't feel like doing (or have no time to do) myself.

If that makes me a Gold Card Harley Rider, so be it. I'll use the miles for a free airline ticket to a place where I can rent a scooter, pay for it with the same card, and earn more miles to buy more mass-produced accessories. [8D]

It's a warm, clear, blue skyday out in Dallas. No cabin fever here. Time for a ride!

Yea.. yea.. going out this weekend to mine some ore. Gonna melt it down to make my own steel. Then I'll buy a forging press to make it into bars so I can weld a frame together, and start building my Harley. Don't wanna be labled a "gold card Harley owner" for God's sake. Oh Sheit.. I can't buy the forge press, that would make me a gold card something else [] Where does it all end??

Badherb has the right idea. If it flips YOUR switch, that's all that matters. Share it with us, and if we like it too, then we should give positive feedback. If it doesn't float your boat.. momma always said "if you can't say something nice about someone, KEEP YOUR DAMN MOUTH SHUT!!"... and go on to a thread that has something more to your liking. It is NOT a requirement to post an opinion on every thread on this forum!

I have done a bike or two in my past, way past late 60s and early 70s, see below., but now I flash my Visa card, and whats wrong with that?? NOT a Damn thing, oh sure I hacksawed parts and filed them to fit, big deal, hell we didn't have much in the line of custom parts..as for me, I'm at the age of, who cares how you did it Gold Card or by hand..don't mean squat to me anymore..I don't think much about any of it any more..another thing to remember back in those days I was working for $4.00 a hour as a Welder journeyman for a utility co., we had to make it our selves.
