Default Metzeler 880 Problems

Had a new one installed last year and now the front is leaking between the rim and tire. No damage to the rim and the tire has less than 3K anyone have any ideas? I'm taking the tire in tomorrow and see if it can be fixed.

I am required to use an inner tube because I have spoke rims, but to answer the question, no I haven't had any leaking issues.Sorry, could be that the bead canme unseated and just needs to be reseated. Good luck.

Make sure you are running high enough air pressure. Metzelers take higher air pressure than other tires, and if you run them low, can damage them.

I have had issues with alot of tires slowly going flat. On my sport bikes I was told that the stickier rubber was more porous hence the loss of a few lbs a week. On my Metzelers I had tubes so I thought that the fact I lived in a coastal town with fluctuating barometric pressures was the culprit.

Have you tried Nitrogen filling the tires to minimize the problem?
That being said my dual sport tires require a constant watch on the pressures so I check em weekly. They are always low

Haven't tried anything but air so far but the wheel is going back to the Indy who installed them tomorrow. The tire was always run at 42PSI and was always pretty sure to check it. I called Metzeler today and they said they would back the tire if it's the problem and the indy will make the call. Felt better after talking to the tire rep so we'll how this plays out.

almost sounds like the bead is broken. is it a fast leak or slow? and glad to hear metzeler will back their product.

Mike Leak is really slow it'll leak a couple pounds a day and I had a hell of a time finding it but it's something I need to get fixed.

If you were here in the Northeast, I would suggest that you didn't move it too much during the winter and it is likely that the bead broke from temperature variations, but since you state you are from Nevada, it could STILL be bead issues from high temp extremes... I doubt it is anything serious - reseat and seal and see what happens.

If the installer scuffed up the sealing area of the tire during install and didnt use a bead sealer solution upon install this can happen.

The bead is not broken as someone said earlier as the tire would be deformed and shake like a bowling ball was inside the tire. The tire would go flat within minutes if they snapped the bead cord.

IMO checking tire pressure weekly is just part of riding. Your tires will last much longer if you do this anyway. If I was losing more than say 7lbs in a week I would probably get irritated but any less than that I chalk up to thats just how it is.

Parts I think your right, I just got off the phone with the shop and they said there was a problem with the "mold" of the tire and a good seal is now being provided. I'll know more when I get home tonight and can see for myself, hopefully my tire woes are in the past.
