Every once in a while I get a jonesing for a Road King, but I don't think I'll ever make the move. I've never ridden a Road King (or any touring Harley for that matter) and I almost don't want to. I'm so happy with my Dyna and love the way it fits me. The touring bikes almost feel too cramped to me for some reason, I think its just the floorboard positioning compared to the forward controls I'm used to. I've put 450 miles in a day on it riding to Sturgis (with no windshield) and never wished for anything more comfortable, other than a few times when I got caught in the rain, a upper and lower fairings would have been nice then.

I think the only reason I'd seriously consider a touring bike is if my wife decided she didn't want to ride her own bike anymore, then I'd probably go for the 2-up advantage of a touring frame.

I am really on the same page as you guys right now. There are a ton of things I'd love to do to my Dyna FXD. I've looked at a swingarm bag, daymaker headlight, and other things but I just dont know if I want to put the money into it because if I decide to sell or trade it, I wont get that back out of it. And I'm drooling for a new bagger. Love to get my hands on a low mileage 12 0r 13 road glide. Decisions Decisions. Another thing is I've paid off the Super Glide. So selling it would mean I'd be getting myself into more payments. At 25 years old with a so/so job, I use the payments I was making on student loans and other things. Above all I guess it all depends on how thick your wallets are.

I had a Road King for several years. It worked great for traveling, but it's a little big for most of the riding I do. I traded the Road King for a Fat Bob.

For the Fat Bob I got a removable windshield, heel rests, backrest, luggage rack, and soft luggage. The Fat Bob works OK for traveling, and it's great for most of the riding I do. It's nice to have the removable options for traveling, but around town I want a smaller, lighter ride.

Sharkman, we have always thought alike. You know how much I have always loved the road king as well. My wife does ride with me about 30% of the time so that also plays into the idea. But to be honest, with the suspension mods, the seats, the mini floorboards, and now the handlebars...The RK will not be anymore comfortable for her as the dyna is. It fits her well and is super comfy. I've been up to 100MPH with her on the back and the bike is rock solid. We both prefer country roads (the twisties) over the freeway so it just doesn't make sense. The dyna is paid for, I could only sell it for half of the money I have tied up in it (heavily modded) and I would have to have another payment. I'm not going touring anytime soon, I love the way I can back out of my garage with a car in the garage and one in the driveway with very little effort. My brother went from a dyna to a bagger and has tipped over his bike 4 times in 2 years.

Dump some money into the suspension and get the king out of your mind.

We always want what we don't have, but the trade offs just are not worth it. The madness has to stop.

The dyna has got me out of a lot of bad situations with cagers because it is so nimble, so fast, and so skinny. The only trouble I have with the dyna is keeping a current pic as it changes so much.

I know who you got your brown leathers from and your going to love them, you got a great deal and you will be surprised what great condition they are in. The solo bag in my sig pic is from the same guy and I love the look.

Enjoy the dyna, get the wife comfy on it, and ride the wheels off of it...only way we're going to get our moneys worth out of it.

As others have said, I would love to have a Street Glide as well. That being said I will NEVER part with my bob. I have put too much time and work into it. I'm hoping someday (and I will!) have a SG in addition to my bob. I just can't turn her loose. I will go without food first.

couldn't agree more man. i wish they had a firm, slim seat for the street glide with a giant pad for her butt

The Road King is an amazing machine, but I prefer, riding, living, and adventuring on a smaller/lighter bike. Simplicity is one of my favorite parts of riding and big bikes take the thrill away a bit for me...not that a Dyna is small exactly, but still fairly minimal.

Yup, I'll post pics.
Tracking said the stuff I bought off of you should be here end of the week, so hopefully this weekend. I bought the left side bag to match from Greg & should have it in a couple weeks or less also.
