Pull it up to the hole in the fender and put the seat nut clip on, now drop the string back out and you done. No need to take wheel off or bust your knuckles getting the new one on. Dont forget to tie something on the string on top so it does not fall through the hole from the top. I use a plastic ring off a milk jug so it does not mar the fender. And next time if you cant turn it in with your fingers it is about to cross on you. Good rule of thumb to remember. Not being a smart a$$ just tring to help

I just use a small zip tie, using the larger zip clip end to hole the nut and feed it up

Now I am wondering how you get the clip on the back or bottom of the nut you just pulled through with the string trick?
It, the nut, looks as if the clip goes on the back end or inside end.
Unless that clip mounts before you do the string trick and pull them both through as a unit?

Trust me....I am bruised and bloody from beating myself over this blunder.
You will understan when you start doing it. The clip slides on from the back on the top side. Pop the clip off and the nut will fall through. Fish the new one through and pop the clip on. The string and zip tie work basically the same way, zip tie is just much faster.

Clip goes on the top side. I used the zip tie trick to replace mine. Also, if you take the seat off quite a bit, get a quick remove bolt. It is a thumb screw you can get from Harley.

The clip is like a E clip. It clips on the new nut on the upper side of the fender. It is shaped like a E and clips in a grove on the nut. You will see what I mean when you take the old one off. Don't worry very simple to do. If you would need pic's I can see what I can do.

Got the screw that goes into the hold down tab on the rear of the seat cross threaded into the hole.
I must have removed and replaced that screw a dozen or more times and never bungled it like this time.

It's down tight, after I greased it up and the seat does not wobble but I want to fix the cross threaded problem. It was a beech getting that screw all the way in, cross threaded.

Thought I saw a thread about this very thing??...Anyway I can't find it.

Little help please.
See photo for reference.

Thank you
Kinda wondering why you would force the screw in once you knew it was cross threaded? Why not just back it out and run a 1/4-20 tap thru it to clean up the threads?

Now your gonna have to grind the bolt head off to get the seat off before you can do anything.

Don't need to grind, just put a 1/4" drill bit on a drill and drill the center of the screw until the head falls off. the the seat bracket will slid right off the remaining threaded part of the screw. Pop off the clip and let it drop out, find on the floor and throw away. Use either string or zip tie method and install the new one in reverse order. Put seat back on, insert new replacement screw and your done.

And the nut/clip for the fender is only about $4 plus tax at the Harley Dealer and the screw (if you want the same kind that was in it before should only be about $0.50 if even that.
