Default Question about fluid changes

When I bought my (used) 03 WG, I also bought a 2yr warranty that covers engine, trans and some of the electrical. Possible some other stuff, I'm not sure just what all. I got a few hundred miles on the bike and want to do a full service fluid change. One shop tells me if I don't let a reputable shop do the work it could screw up my warranty. I'm very capable of doing this work myself, just afraid it anything happens, the company won't stand good. Not sure what to do as the cost runs in the $200 plus range for a shop to do it. Do I just suck it up and pay or take a chance?

I hate to say it but I would buy the oil from the HD dealer and the filter as well. Keep your receipt for documentation and change it yourself. They may still give you a problem but you can always pony up the dough and let the dealer change it to avoid a hiccup from the oil change. They may try to getcha somewhere else besides the oil change if you file a claim. IMO Extended warranties are only as good as the person who stands behind it.

Agreed. Use the Moco's overpriced fluids and filter, keep the receipts and document the mileage. I am pretty sure legally there is not much they can do besides honor your warranty.

The shop is full of chit, tell them to look at the The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. Keep the receipts for the lubes & filter and document your mileage. And no, you dont have to use HD's oil.

Bill like Ynots said do the work yourself and save the money for some chrome. Just keep the receipts and your good to go. The only thing I buy from HD is the oilfilter and the Belray fluids I put in her, believe it or not they are cheaper there than on e-bay.

Thanks- I feel the warranty is a borderline Rip Off, but if I was to blow a motor or shell a tranny, and "IF" they stand good, my cost is only $50 bucks. I still think I'll do the changes and ,like you all said, keep the receipts.
