Default Changing rocker boxes.

I bought chrome rocker boxes for my 07 Streetbob.
Has any one changed before? Is it difficult and require any special tools?
Thanks

i stuck a black center section in my '98 FXDS today and it was very simple. If you have a shop manual it is described very well in there.

It really is not that hard to do...

Remove the fuel tank and seat first. Then remove the covers, the front cylinder will be easier to mess with because there is more room there. The front cylinder may have a head temperature sensor screwed down into the head, this must be disconnected in order to remove the covers.

The rear one may require that you purchase the special tool or you can take an allen wrench and shorten it up some to make it fit. Also, you may have to remove a pushrod in order to remove the rockerbox cover. With pushrod still there, there sometimes is not enough clearence between the frame and the top of the pushrod...so the cover cannot be lifted up. Often, you cannot simply pull the pushrod out either, because the frame is in the way. Times, you may have to remove the pushrod cover and take the pushrod out that way. At any rate, expect removing at least one pushrod.

When removing the rockerbox cover, remove the bolts evenly or you could possibly warp that cover. When tightening everything back together, just make everything snug...as a torque wrench is not really required and a torque wrench just may not fit where you want it. When you reinstall, make sure the pushrods are lined up directly under the rocker arms where they are suppose to...or bending can occur.

And get a shop manual....pictures really do help sometimes.
