I mocked up my mount using my old, stock speedo and got everything where I want it, then pulled up my dash for a looksee. There's a lot of cutting and splicing that will have to be done to extend the speedo harness where I need it away from the ignition switch and idiot lights. Rather than cut up my installed harness, I'm going searching for a replacement and cut and extend that so that I can just unplug and swap harnesses.
How about using something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-6-spe...-/251265168477
Or buy the tool and make your own? No need to cut the stock wires. Pull them out of the connector, plug them together, and put the new end into the connector

You are full of good ideas...when (if) I get this done, I'm buying you a beer!
I still plan to mod a spare harness so I can swap right back if I change my mind down the road.

You understand this is pretty much the entire bike harness, right? I don't see any connectors to separate off a piece. A new one from kutter harley online is $366. If you go looking for one on ebay make sure it is a can-bus harness.
If you use the same style connectors that are used in that link I gave you above, it is all completely reversible. There is no cutting of the stock harness at all. You could put it back to stock in minutes if necessary. This method will probably cost you more like $30-50 I would guess.

Good point...I didn't realize a replacement harness cost so much.
...and on my way home I got popped for speeding. The LEO asked if I knew how fast I was going, and I could honestly reply "no, because my speedo is down there." He laughed, but still gave me the ticket.
I am sometimes shocked when I look down at it. I just doesn't seem like I'm going that fast. I'm gonna use my Power Vision speedo gauge function until I get something mounted higher up.
