I just bought a 93 fxr and have been pulling it apart to fix a oil valve seal issue.Bike has a screaming eagle 1 cam right now was looking at the specs and was wanting to see what you all thought about it vs ev27 cam?would it be worth doing a change to the ev27.would i loose anything or gain anything.I am sure this cam question has been asked, but did a search and can find much on the screaming eagle 1 cam at all.
I have, well, HAD an EV3 in mine until I started pulling the engine apart last weekend. THAT cam, in a FXR,is exactly how that should have performed and ran from the factory.
Thanks Chasespeed for the info on the ev3.I am just not sure if it would be worth the extra cash to go to the ev27 or another cam or just use the creamin eagle i have.Alo kickin around the idea of going with the screamin eagle piston and ring kit 22195-98.I bealieve they are .005 over stock.any thoughts on that kit also.I am not looking to have to get into compression releases and all that just found one of my cylinders has some pretty good scratches in it.not sure they will clean up with just a hone.
Take the jugs to a GOOD machine shop, with the proper plates. Or better yet, send them to a shop. I have personally done business with NRHS. Dan has treated me good over the years. That shop is my go to. However, the are MANY other shops that can do the work.
How ever, the important thing is to send your cylinders to a shop with the proper equipment. They can be bored. Then fitted with the proper pistons, and rings.
Now, at this point, your compression is bumped up, you also have more cam options.
I recommend talking to the shop/builder of your choice, tell them what you want, and go from there.
