Default Finally decided. I think...

After going back and forth in my head for a few months form a Street Bob to a Switchback, then back and forth a couple of times I think I got it figured out.

In my opinion I think the Switchback is too much money. At $17k MSRP You are getting bags and a windshield. Plus the color choices are less than desirable, and I am not sold on the way it looks.

I am going to go with a SB in a few months. I do have a couple of things to figure out on it however. I have a Sportster 72 that I am not selling that has apes and forward controls.

I am thinking of doing drag bars and mid controls on the SB. Is anyone running this set up? I am a little gunshy on gong this route but I don't want to have the big twin version of what I already have in the 72.

BTW the SB will be my daily rider here in NYC and it will be street parked and sit outside for most of the year.

Thanks

The SB can be sporty if done right. The drag bars might be a bit low, but you could always add risers later.

Suspension is more important. Especially got NYC streets. Look at the club/thug style thread for ideas that are different from the apes and slammed look.

I have sat on an SB with drag bars and it felt pretty good. You are correct suspension will be a must as well. I already had planned on that.

I am more skeptical about the mid controls really. Haven't ridden a Harley with them yet. It seems a lot of people run them though.

I use mids because riding stretched out has a tendency of making my back sore. I mounted folding highway pegs for an occasional stretch. A lot of guys prefer the forwards. I personally feel I have more control with mids

I am thinking the same thing on the more control aspect. Really I just also want something different than what I have now. Really if I don't like it in a while it can be changed anyway right.

I would say mids, with a medium height bar. The stock StBob is 10 inch. I don't really have enough miles on mine to say one way or the other how they are. I prefer lower bars.

Though a comfortable attack position will certainly help.

But, above all, YOU need to be comfortable. That may be a neutral position, a forward position, a laid back, etc.

tough choice
i would go sb too
mids are comfortable and with the right bars are great
for a long time i had mids and flat track style bars on my superglide and it is very nice

right now i have slightly higher around 8-10" bars with switchback floorboards and i am likin it alot, although most of the time my heels are hangin off the back anyway cause i am use to mids

I think that drag bars with some pull back risers are comfortable.

I am 5'6" so I need the pullback to help with my reach.

I have a set of these bars and risers I couls sell pretty cheap if you want to try them out.

Here is an old pic...I'm not as fat anymore but just as short! Oh yeah, I have a tank lift so the risers help to not smack the tank with the bars.

I think it's all a personal preference ...
Depends on what you want to do with the bike.
Lots of us chose switchbacks because they are very versitale in being able take the bags and the windshield off.... Strip the bike down to bar hop or add it back to commute or travel... Again personal choice
I paid 15k for mine and when I looked at what I wanted to add to a SB, well the cost didn't add up for me.
I'm sure you will be happy with any of the Dyna family, they are great bikes
