Yup! Set it a blaze.[&:]

Last Friday night I got a little bored, so went out to the garage to tinker on the bike.I was tired, and impatient, and shouldn't have been messing around.But, I wanted to install a new set of bars. And first, to get to the internal wiring, the gas tank has to come off.

I couldn't find a piece of old gas line I had laying around in the garage, so I tried to rig up a funel, and gas can to drain the gas into. Well it wasn't working so well, gas was over flowing all over the place, down the motor, and puddleing on the floor under the bike. (you might be asking yourself at this time, "did he disconnect the battery"... well no I didn't)
After several failed attempts at repositioning the funnel I hurried to plug the gas line back in. At that exact moment.... A HUGE FLASH of FIRE, right in front of me and under me!

I leaped back looking down to see what part of me was on fire. (Thank GOD I wasn't and somehow got the gas line back in at the very moment the fire ignited)

SACRED the hell out of me, my bike was engulfed in flames, I thought my entire garage then house might go as well. I opened the garage door, grabbed the garden house and got it extinguished pretty quick.

I had screamed for my wife, she woke the kids and ran out the front door with them.

It was avery scarey experience, and I was very lucky. The fire looked awful, and luckily the bike did not sustain alot of damage. I have some melted wires, and front brake line. My front tire has blistered spot as well.

The Insurance adjuster came today, and the total repair cost is $631.

Two words of advice I can give:

1. Always disconnect your battery if your messing with gas.

2. Keep a Fire Extinguisher in your garage/shop. (had it been a cold night, and my garden house would have been frozen, I could have only watched it burn.)

Oh man, that's a bummer! Glad it wasn't a total loss.

That's a good lesson to be learned though. Thanks for the education.

Ooops... That sucks bro, but at least you didn't lose a house or family.

 

I certainly got lucky, could have been far worse.

And now I have $631 to invest in new mods that my wife can't complain about.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I'm real bad about not disconnecting the battery, will sure think about it from now on. Glad their was no one hurt. Things can be replaced but people can't, be thinking about you in our prayers.

Damn there have been times when I wasn't exactly thrilled with my Harley but it never occured to me to set it a blaze.
