I got 14's on my ride and i like them very much. Same as some other's stated it just more comfortable, I have both elbows, wrist and shoulder operated on. So yea i am looking for just more comfort. Took my bud's superglide one time and it has low bar's. Guess who going to add tall ones to his bike now
I thought all the cool kids where running the same gear as that tv show everyone is watching
Oh you mean the one that has actors riding Dynas with mid controls, tall t-bars, headlight fairings, turn signals on the mirrors, white sneakers, flannel shirts, and brain buckets?

How tall are you? Just asking because I am thinking of adding 14's to mine. I currently stand at 5' 8".
Historically, Apes were first used by the desert racers of the 50s. They could stand on the floorboards through the soft stand and still have control of the bike.
Pullbacks and Apes became popular in the 60s because they provided better leverage on the extended front ends with questionable rake and trail. Apes became a fashion statement in the late 70s.
Taller riders are able to have a comfortable shoulder high position using them while some like the leaning forward position to "ride the wind" much as a cafe' rider sitting up. I have noted Jesse James really hangs forward on bikes he builds.
For me it's a comfort thing. I am 6'3" all arms and legs. So far forward foot controls and 16" apes are most comfortable for me. I have total control of my bike and can ride as long as anyone else. The stock bars on my bob just seemed too low and I felt like I was hunched over.
I originally switched to apes for the looks only...im 5'10 and never rode with apes before so i was definitly a bit aprehensive....after a ton of research i found so many riders who loved the feel and comfort....so i finally decided to pull the trigger and im glad i did...along with apes i added footboards and now im able to sit farther back...comfort is much better...no back pain at all...best mod i did yet
