How do you all feel about the aftermarket panhead valve covers? Too poser? I'm re-styling my FXDF along the lines of a Duo-Glide; I think they'd add to the effect...for a price.Already bought the RSD ones, but they're chrome tops only so I need stock chrome lowers to match as mine are polished...
My friend has the pan covers on his wideglide and looks great, I have also seen the knuckle rocker covers on a cross bones, I prefer the pan covers, also they make a kidney style cam cover to finish the look
they look nice, i have seen them a few times but, to me it just screams fake, sort of like when people use to put homemade 4x4 or z-71 decals on the back of their trucks
i relize we all do things to change our bikes and make them different but that is just trying to make it look like something it isn't
it actually looks good but i just cant get past it and you did ask

How about making a newly designed engine look like a flathead? That's a bit much for me...I'm trying to convince myself the pan covers are now just another alternative style...those of us from back in the day will sure recognize them as "fake", but they are just retro covers after all and we're riding the most famous retro bike on the market...then there's springer front ends on bikes with rear shocks etc etc

Like the new Indian?
I was looking at a "cutaway" engine they had at a show the other day, and it's pretty interesting what all they had to do to pull that off. Seemed a little fakey to me, and I wouldn't mind if it just looked like an overhead valve engine. Very pretty engine though.
