Default Easy kickstand fix for taller or lower shocks

In case any other member is interested, I'm posting what I think is the cheapest and safest way to fix the motorcycle lean angle for those of us running with 13" shocks or higher. This mod can be used on those running lowered shocks as well as the opposite applies.

As the picture shows I removed the kickstand, and had a local welder add on 1/4 an inch of steel to the kickstand locking tab.

This is the tab that locks the kickstand in place and the frame rests on this part. The higher the tab height = less lean, the lower the tab height = more lean.

So for someone running a dropped bike, all they would have to do is shave some height off the locking tab.

Cost me $25 and the use of anti-seize when putting the stand back on.

This is also a safer alternative (to me) than heating and bending the kickstand, and cheaper and easier than cutting and welding a piece to make the kickstand longer.

Kickstand placement doesn't change when it's up or down as well.

I am interested, thanks! Great pic of it too. Maybe you're the inventor of that thing, better patent it.

Haha yeah.. doubt I could patent it though. Let's chalk it up to "creative commons".

There are limits when lowering. There is only so much travel at the top of the kickstand shaft in it's housing. From personal experience ...

Nice job.
Why does not Harley listen to its owners and re design the kick stand. It should be on the side of the frame, not in the middle. They are probably well aware of the problem , but don't want to put out the money to change. Same also with the single front disc brake.

Izzy

What was the original shock height and the new shock height? That will give us a point of reference. I put FXDX rear shocks on an 02 FXD and it leaned over pretty good. All I did was carry a section of 2x4 in the left bag for fueling all the way up. If I remember right the stock shock length on the 02 FXD was 12.6 and the FXDX shocks were 13.5 or so.

I have another 02 FXD and am thinking of going 13".

Won't it rust?
