Yes I know they are ugly. But they are obviously there for a reason. And we all know people don't look out for motorcycles day or night. Just looking for a general consensus on what you guys think.
HD put them there because the government required it. We know how most of us feel about the government.
If you are about to be broadsided at an intersection, I doubt the reflectors will make much difference in the outcome.
Reflectors on the forks won't help keep someone from pulling out in front of you. The only real benefit of them is making you more visible from the side and even then the headlight and turn signals seem to be a better attention getter. It doesn't matter what we do. People are always gonna "not see us" sometimes. I took mine off simply because they're goofy looking. I highly doubt a 1/2" x 5" strip would help anything other than maybe it getting hit in a parking lot at night.
Only remote consequences of reflector removal might be a post crash investigation. Investigators and attorneys could claim in court that the reflectors may have made you more visible to to the defenadant that injured you. Jury might agree and think the crash was preventable if you had relefctors and award less damages.
A long shot for sure but one to consider before pulling the reflectors off.
