I had lots of primary noise in my '09 fat bob. A few years ago I swapped the stock comp for the SE comp and that eliminated some of the noise. Last year I opened up the primary to check the comp and it was already showing some signs of fretting. I also noticed that the HD tensioner had overtightened so I removed it and installed the hayden tensioner and that has reduced the noise to what I feel is acceptable. I just opened the primary again last month to check on things and the hayden tensioner is holding up great. I didn't remove the comp to check for the fretting but I imagine it is getting worse. Once someone comes up with a better comp I will probably swap it again. I run Formula+ in the primary.
After changing my comp, IPB, and tensioner they quit going bad.
Any thoughts on what was the main culprit? In other words, if I was to replace one part to get better longevity from the bearings, what part would that be?

Anything from drive belt tension to over ratcheting of the tensioner to the banging of the comp.

The 2014 version of the Compensator (Now just called "Big Twin Compensator") was redesigned to address the fretting issues. I just installed it and it appears to be doing fine.
Wrong there's a whole thread on this. Most of the bikes that have issues are 06 dynas with an 88" motor in it. Most of the issues were fixed by 07 with the 96" motor. Been down that road with my 06 not fun.
