Chrome inner/outer primary versus belt drive on FLD Switchback
I have a 13 FLD that I have been customizing. The bike size is perfect for me (5.6) and I like the removable windshield, bags, etc. that the FLD provides. I do not like the aluminum engine covers and I want to switch to chrome.
If I replace both inner and outer covers with chrome parts that cost +/- $600 when for maybe another $500, I can go with a belt drive.
I assume the labor is not much different man-hour wise.
Will the OEM clutch work dry? If not, factor in the cost of a new clutch. Exposed or covered? If covered, heat will kill a belt quick-like & you'll have to hack up the primary to get some airflow or spend $$$ for aftermarket.
I personally like the look of an open belt drive, but no way is it a "just $500 more" proposition.

Ya I was looking at some pricing but now that I look again it is for 2005 and earlier. Pricing for the 6 speed 2006 and up is a lot more.
All those engine covers can be found on eBay for way cheaper than what you pay retail. Chrome is out, black is in, so chrome is cheap. I recently picked up a chrome cam cover, tranny side cover, and tranny top cover for 120 bucks shipped total. Would've cost well over 300 if I bought new from the dealer.
