Default QD Hardware - can the rattling be stopped?

The rattle in my QD hardware is 'bout to damn drive me crazy [&:]!! I have QD sideplates with a Low Sissy bar .... sounds likea damned can with rocks in it. I've tried the normal ...shimming it with tape, checking to see that everything is tight, etc... Right now I'm considering putting my rigid plates back on and saying to hell with it.

Any ideas? ....preferably ones that dont involve sledge hammers or semi-automatic weapons as I've ruled those out .... for now!!

That's weird, I haven't had any issues with the side plates. Sometimes the screws that hold the sissy bar in the side plates loosen and it rattles like crazy. Are you sure it's the side plates? Mine are TIGHT in those bushings.

Are the little plastic pieces that keep it quiet broken out already??

Mine are. I find the rattling of the quick detach crap keeps my mind off the rattling of the valve train and transmission.

I too am looking for a solution to this problem......It's so bad on my low sissybar, that I've resorted to just taking the damn thing off, unless the wife is riding with me. Mine worked fine until the stealer went back there to install some detachable saddlebags. It doesn't rattle as long as something is bungeed to it, or leaning against it, but when I'm by myself, I feel like an idiot riding in downtown traffic on an eighteen thousand dollar bike that sounds like it's falling apart!

I hope someone has found a cure for this, as I've wasted my time getting the stealer to fix it.

Same here...I haven't ridden the bike since November, but I can still hear that damned rattle in my ear.

As soon as I start riding this season, I'm sure I'll be doing something about that.

Sorry to hear............. Don't be made at me or anything, but my quick detach sissybar mounts don't rattle ever, with attached or off. Got over 13000 miles on it.
Not being a smartarse or anything.............. I installed mine me own self when the 06 SG had about 150 miles on it.

Did almost lose my Motherwell fender rack once, when the rear thumd screw looseened up on me, and fell out............. Strange thing was the rattle appeared to be coming from the front of the bike, and of course followed with the engine RPMs and I thought I had blown the engine.

What do you think is causing the rattle??

Well ... least it's not just me. Maybe all of us that are having the problem can figure something out.

Kevin ... the problem seems to be that the black plastic insert on the rear strut bolts isnt quite thick enough. You can cut some electrical tape down and roll it on there and just about get the problem taken care of. However, the rotating lock on the sideplate wont allow you to get enough tape in place.

My old '68 Chevy Stepside I had when I was 16 was held together with pretty much whatever I could find ... I'd really like the "BlueGlide" to get a better solution. I like the ability to strip the bike down, but I dont know how much of that rattlin' I can take.

Hey Doug ...

It's definately the sideplates not locking into the black plastic inserts in the rear strut bolts tightly enough. I can juice the bike in nuetral and rattle away it does .... grab the sideplate and hold it firmly, give her some more juice and not a rattle anywhere to be heard. I've checked and double-checked ... it's all installed and alinged correctly ... just doesnt lock in place tight enough. Also, no rattle at all when the bar is unistalled.

Holy ****............. I just realized, if I don't have anything (luggage, etc.) on the sissybar it does rattle from time to time............. just never put 2&2 together (I ain't always so bright/10w bulb).

Mine only does that on occassion when I am taking off, and no luggage, etc.
The other thing is, I have a backrest on my Corbin solo and its a real tight fit with the front luggage bag and the backrest (I mean snug/push to get QD sissybar attached).

Really sorry for joking about this, now. I'll see what I can come up with (besides stuffing a bunch of luggage, like a fat woman, between the bar and the driver seat backrest) to make the rattle stop.

I don't attach the sissybar, unless I have it already packed with luggage.

Later,
Butthead DougJ

I saw an accessory in the HD parts catalog a while back advertising a locking pin type mechanism, which can be used on the QD cam locks to keep one's QD sissy bar from being stolen. I wonder if this device would help to tighten the cam lock better?

I may have to purchase something else from the stealer.
