Default First time installing apes. Have questions!

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of gathering parts to install my apes next month. I have a 2014 Dyna Super Glide. I've told my wife, that is what I want for my b-day which is at the end of March, but I'm trying to spread out the spending and be prepared to install them on my b-day weekend. I'm set on buying the 12.5 Wild One Chubby's in black. I bought yesterday the kuryakyn black iso grips. Also, I am talking to another member on here about buying his cables off his 2007 Street Bob.

My questions are; Will that be all I need or am I forgetting something? Are the cables off a 2007 Street Bob compatible? Are the cables the length I need?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Looked online and it says stock bar height for street bobs years 06 to 08 is 10" and 09 to 13 is 12". Double check this though because it is the internet and unfortunately you can't believe everything. But if his cables are for 10 inch bars I'd be careful. I put 12" street bob bars on my super glide and I needed all new cables. Also, if those are the chubby bars make sure they will fit your handlebar clamp.

Don't forget wiring extensios in addition to the
throttle/idle & clutch cables. Several places online
offer them as plug-and-play, in the factory colors.
If your stock clamp is two-piece, switch to a
one-piece clamp. The longer, heavier bars will
Eventually fatigue right in the middle, and picking
up a bike with spaghetti for bars just plain
sucks... You really don't want the whole
story on that one.
Also not a bad idea to swap out the throttle/
Idle cable ferrules while you have the control
housings apart. Get some cable lube and slick
up those while you're at it.
Don't be surprised if you need to adjust the hot and cold idle as
well as th clutch when all is said & done.

Good luck, and refer to your service manual often!!!

New poly riser bushings are probably worth considering.

Cool! Where does one look online? Sure would make ANY bar change a LOT easier!

I thought I read on here pretty typically that guys with street bobs could go up to 14" with stock cables. Anyone with an 07 to verify that would be great!

Where do yall recommend getting wire extension kits?

My stock clamp is a 2 piece. Any recommendations on good 1 piece clamps?

I'll check into the poly riser bushings.

I'd go get some 18 gauge black wire and solder in a piece to extend your wires. Those wire extension kits are expensive and in my experience many times the colors don't match up right. Do yourself a favor and spend the few extra bucks on the Harley poly bushings I've installed the cheaper ones before and they are weaker then the stock rubber ones

New Poly riser bushings, 1 quart tranny oil, brake fluid, brake bleeding kit, grip adhesive. Street Bob cables can reach out to 14 inches of rise. My buddy has 2 inch riser extensions on his Street Bob with plenty of rise to spare. You're gonna need to bleed the brakes when installing the new/old brake cable, and also drain the tranny when you remove the cover to replace the clutch cable. A new O ring for the tranny plug would be a good idea too, and maybe a tranny cover gasket too. Be a bitch to spring a leak reusing old gaskets and o rings.

solder your own wire extensions in and shrink wrap them its really easy and saves some money. also the easiest way to bleed brakes is to push fluid back up the line from the caliper with a syringe. if you do it the old way it will take way too long. and get a Harley riser. sometimes its worth it to spend the extra money. after market ones just didn't clamp tight enough for me.
